If the pads are double duty then the best thing you can do is the Ferodos. I wouldn't think twice about it...
Yes, I agree on the Ferodo DS2500 being one of the best double duty pads out there. It is rotor friendly when cold, linear brake torque curve and excellent modulation and release characteristics.

Cool Carbon is more of a street pad than track pad and can't really be compared to the DS2500.

Yes, they are a great thermal barrier to keep heat away form the pistons and reduce the possibility of boiling the brake fluid.

Yes, unfair of me to compare.

Damn the Castrol is expensive.....

Someone also suggested Pentosin Super Dot4 - but I am looking at their website right now and get the funny feeling that Pentosin DOT4 LV is what we have OEM.

so thoughts?

Motul RBF 600 and you won't have a problem, my brakes get extremely hot at the track, and I have not had an issue with RBF 600.

Okay, that is what I was leaning towards anyway, and I can get it local. Thanks much.

I could only do 1/2 the normal session all day, I'm definitely upgrading to harder pads...

This review seems out of the ordinary. What Motul fluid did you use? I'm interested i the Ferodo 2500 pads but unsure after reading this.

Hawk race pads are good to 1600 degrees. Ferodo 2500 are good to 950 degrees. I exceed 950 on all four tracks I run at. It's hard not to if you're getting above 120 mph. For reference, your rotors glow orange at 1200 degrees. If that happens, you've probably melted the Ferodos.

With any street/track pads, when they do start to fade, just back off on your braking by lifting off the gas way early and coasting a few seconds before you brake - the opposite of late braking, so your top speed becomes 110 instead of 130. You can do that every other lap and be fine.

That's interesting. Do you know what the stock pads are rated up to? Everything I've read so far states that Ferodo is better than Hawk.

Hawk makes a lot of pads. You're probably thinking of HPS, which is for street only, or HP+, which is for autocross. I'm talking about DTC-60 and DTC-70, which are race pads and are generally not used for street except driving to and from the track.

I don't know the specifics of BMW stock pads. They're probably good to around 500 or 600 degrees.

I think so. I need a dual purpose pad for the street and occasional track day. 60 and 70 pads are not suitable for this but great on track.

Ferodo 2500 has an excellent rep for holding up on track compared to other street/track pads. But I guess it can be noisy in some cars.

Hawk DTC-30 is even tougher on track and has a ton of stopping power. It can handle 1200 degrees, which is enough for 3 of the 4 tracks I run at. Reviews say DTC-30 is noisy in most cars, but for some reason, it's quiet in my car, but DTC-60/70 are quiet in my car too - I guess I got lucky somehow.

Depends on which Hawk and Ferodo you are comparing. DS2500 is better than HP+ and full race pads will be similar with Hawk being better overall.

Excllent pad (I had them on my car), except the annoying chunking (which can be fixed with back plates) and squeaking noise.

Is this referring to the Ferodos?
If so what backing plates should be used with them?

Haha I just answered this in the other thread. Reuse the BMW backing plates with the new pads. If you're doing the work yourself, you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. If a shop is doing the work, just tell them to reuse the BMW backing plates with the new pads, front and rear.
