Front tyre rubbing
Has anyone else noticed that their front drivers side tyre, is rubbing on the bottom corner of the guard.
Mine has actually worn the paint away, and is now chewing into the guard. I am only assuming this is the cause of the scuff as the car has only 1,550km's on her, and the way the inner guard is scratched in a rotation style scuff. Its impossible to get damaged any other way as it is in the inner panel, unless it was damaged at the dealers during pre delivery, and I never noticed it before. OEM Stock suspension and tyres |

That's unusual. Can you get someone to turn the car at full lock whilst you inspect it? Also worthwhile trying this on a slope, or entering a driveaway. I have a feeling the damage is from something else because there seems to be plenty of room there.

Hey Zuzu
Actually i have the tire rub but on the plastic shield a bit higher up, also driver's side. It only happens at almost full turn. The problems started after i put my winter tires on (exact oem size, yokohamas w.drive) - guess the winter thread is just a bit higher. Anyone else experiencing that? cheers Szakool |

I think the prob could be on full lock on a steep angle.. Once the weather dries up in Sydney, I will put some painters tape over the damaged area take for a drive and see what happens. |

Same problem, left front. Started after I put the winter setup on. Winter setup is 270M wheels and Michelin Alpin tires (235/45x18 if I remember correctly). I only notice when backing up and turning left.

Based on the location of that scuff, I do not believe it's from the tires rubbing. I'm not really sure what would cause a consistent rubbing in that part of the car though... Have you scraped on anything while driving? Like pulling out of a shopping complex or possibly gone over a parking curb?

That doesn't seem to be caused by the tires...it is almost physically impossible unless your wheels are wearing much bigger tires and the car has some major caster issues going on. It almost seems as if something got stuck to the tire on that side and rubbed every time it spun by. This happened to me many cars ago with a long piece of electrical tape that someone decided to dump on the street and got attached to one of my tires, which it swung around for quite a few revolutions until I started hearing it and came to a stop.

The location and positioning of the scrape, would make it totally impossible to be caused by a curb or speed hump..the hump would have to have such an acute angle to reach that area. The theory of something foreign stuck to the tyre is plausible. I have placed some painters tape on the scraped area this morning ( as this is the first chance i have had to drive the car since noticing the scuff ) and will see over the next few days whether it gets rubbed off.. Only other explanation I can come to, that maybe it was damaged during delivery on the carrier ramps.. |
