Carnuba WILL bake off which is why it's pretty much useless for paint protection as well. A good synthetic product like Meguiar's #21 for wheels and paint works great and lasts much, much longer. I usually get 3 months of life on the wheels and at least 6 on the paint.

I recommend a synthetic sealant like the Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant. It helps keep brake dust from bonding to the wheel and it makes future cleanings much easier!

+1 for Poor Boy's World Wheel Sealant. I put three coats on back in April when I changed back to my summer shoes and it's still working great. Just use a MF cloth every couple of days to wipe of the dust between washes; it takes me about 2 to 3 minutes to wipe down all four wheels with a MF. Then when you wash, you can practically hose off any remaining dust and then wipe off the interior of the wheels with a sponge or brush with soapy water. I don't need to use any special wheel cleaner at all.

I hope you dry wiping the wheels isn't scratching the crap out of them. You wouldn't dry wipe your paint, don't do it to your wheels.

I haven't noticed any problems with the coating on my wheels after wiping them with a micro fiber given the multiple coats of the wheel sealant. Seems to work fine to me...

Eagle1 just came out with good stuff. Got to get wheels good and clean, light mist and dry 10-15 minutes. With my pressure washer even in this FL heat, the carbon dust washes right off. It's about $6/bottle and I've been using the same bottle for 2 cars for over a month now. Application lasts about 2 weeks...

+ Another 1 for Poorboy's Wheel Sealant. Purchased my first jar about 1.5 months ago and after about 5 washes the loose dust still sprays off and it's an easy 15 second/wheel wipe after that.

I've been using Poor Boys Wheel Sealant for two months and am happy with how it minimizes brake dust buildup and eases cleaning it off. Different/ceramic pads are the only permanent solution.....but there goes brake warranty (if that bothers you).

I just got the wheel wax, do I have to take off the wheel to apply the wax for better results or just apply with the wheels on?

Eagle 1 makes a product called "keep clean wheel" ive used it for about a year and love it!

wash and clean wheels to the best of your ability, they must be very dry and cool then just spray this product on and it repells everything for at least a three weeks...

recommend greatly for OEM break pads....

You can do it with the wheel on the car. Make sure you prepare the paint properly before applying the wax.

wash all the time, or stop using them brakes! i put about 3-4 coats of poorbros wheelwax, make the wash a tad easier but does not reduce the dust. I think its part of owning a bmw. makes my wheels look gunmetal after about a week so gives my car a different look! hahaha

The only way to actually reduce the dust is to change the pads tosomething that dusts less.

Wheels look pitted by dust

How to clean this or repair? Can't believe the dust has done this. Appreciate any suggestions.

I use this stuff and it really works great. I thought I was wasting money the first time I tried it. But it performs as advertised. I was going to replace pads, but now I am satisfied using this product.

Just try it, you'll like it.

little old thread...but what the shit.....
first off brake dust sucks, but think of it as physical therapy workout as this part of the car needs more detailing than anything else..i alway's keep many coats of a good wax on my rims and i use my electric Turbo Leaf blower to blow "most" of the brake dust off the car after every couple days, otherwise its too much..I also use the leaf blower on the car itself to blow off dust, and use it on EVERY hand wash job i do to get the excess water off the car before it can dry(well water high in minerals)with the blower. Having 2 black cars.... now till this one, black is real tough to keep looking new...but i have...
I do think that i will try some dedicated wheel sealer or wax on this car....My last car had Advan RS in Dark Gunmetal...and it helped with hiding the dust , but after a couple days even dark wheels loose there sheen if not cleaned...i also had HyperBlack rims as well, and same situation...helped a bit...But silver rims and brake dust is the hardest to deal with....but then again the 135i has pretty EASY rims to clean....

I've had good luck with Poor Boy here in dirty New England. Less brake dust sticks to the wheels and they're easier to clean.

i actually have found 2 great ways to keep the brake dust down. I tried all the fancy stuff..poor boys wheel wax etc with no luck.

1. Keep your car parked in your garage all winter, you will be surprised with the results....NO brake dust at all
2. and my favorite...dont use your brakes!

obviously i am just f'n around...new brakes would be the only way. I kinda like how at the first part of the week i start off with bright silver wheels, then by the end i have gunmetal wheels!
