Has anyone ever had VANOS bolts shear off a 2008-2009? I know they're not supposed to have the issue, but this is so scary it almost makes me want to crack open the valve cover and have a look.

" This Recall involves certain E70, E71, E82, E88, E89, E90, E92, E93, F10 and F25 vehicles with the N51, N52K and N52T engines produced from September 2009 to November 2011. "

So you're probably okay depending on build dates. If your valve cover is leaking and you're not experiencing any weirdness you're probably okay.

I got a check engine code for a VANOS cold start issue. Then less than a week later this happened. So if you get some VANOS codes I would be very cautious I thought it was just my solenoids...

If you want piece of mind you can rent/borrow a borescope tool and stick it in the valve cover to get a look at some of the bolts. Then turn the engine over by the crank bolt to look at others.

Good point. I might be able to get a decent look at them through the oil filler cap, at least enough to tell if any are missing the heads. I definitely don't want to remove the valve cover if I don't need to.

E93 M3 FSB went on. Haven't had a chance to put it it through the paces yet, but I'm definitely a fan after a quick run to the gas station. Whole car felt tighter and more responsive which is an area the B8+BMWP combo lacked in.

So just who took this well-aimed close-up pic of your speedo @ 130kmh? Not judging, just asking.

It’s from a German company - Kerscher tuning.

Sound great! Im so bummed they stopped making them. Living in Switzerland doesn’t give me a lot of options and have to stick with BMW parts to stay legal.

What’s the story? How did you find it?

You can try to mail order from Germany.

I used hubauer.de. They have a setting to make the language in English. Given the strong dollar value, it may not be too cost prohibitive.

Ugh, so needlessly strict there.
Given that you have to stick with OEM BMW, perhaps you want to consider the golf tee mod. It's not the same, but does offer a bit more sound from the stock system.

Soooo, no PEs in germany, no PEs in the US.
Lo and behold, BMW had a few systems kicking around in Canada.

Luck.

Try giving BMW Toronto a call! (416) 623-4269
If there are any still out there, they will not be able to ship to you... but you may be able to ship through a third party (like a friend or forwarder) after picking up from the dealership.
