Saphireblack BMW e87 - Build thread

Hi,

I wanted to present you my BMW e87 118d from 2008
I bought this car in January 2014, so i have it now 2 and a half year.

I already warn you, this post will be long, because the first modifications started in 2014, and i did a few

When I bought it:

Sadly i dont have an interior picture when I bought it, but i have this

View post on imgur.com

So first thing I did was to buy some nice 17" rims (because student)

View post on imgur.com

After this i retrofitted the blackline high:

View post on imgur.com

and wrapped my interior with some carbon fiber vynil

View post on imgur.com

And i painted the rims black with some foliatec plastidip

After a while I was thinking what else I should to to my car and i found this bumper in a local Facebook group, and bought it really cheap, without even knowing if it would actually fit

View post on imgur.com

After some reading, i found out it fits easily to the e87 LCI without M pack, so I ordered the necessary plastic parts:

View post on imgur.com

Then I was lucky, and some guy at the gas station backed into me:

View post on imgur.com

Nothing major, but enough that his insurance paid a respray of the bumper. So I put on my new bumper.

View post on imgur.com

And got it painted basically for free

View post on imgur.com

So now I have a nice bumper, so what else can I spend my money on? Right some nice sport seats

View post on imgur.com

They came from an e87 pre facelift, but fitted perfectly. Oh and did I mentioned they were cheap?

View post on imgur.com

All this happened in the first 10 months I owned this car.

After a while with the shittiest steering wheel in the world, i found a nice M Steering wheel with the right airbag, and multifunction buttons, so i will retrofit these directly with the steering wheel (nope until this date they still don't work ) Wrapped the multifunction cover of course in this very nice carbon fiber....

View post on imgur.com

Oh and I changed all the LEDs to red and white:

View post on imgur.com

Here you can see the beautiful business head unit (changed it later for a professional one)

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

Soooo then in about march last year I was sick of the 16" winterwheels and the 17" summerwheels. So one late evening scrolling on a local facebook group, and somebody sold some x5 wheels (styling 153 in 8.5x18 et48) and i just bought them (because very good price)

They looked like this (picture from google) and had some nice 255 50 r18 tyres

View post on imgur.com

With the right tyre (goodyear eagle f1 asymetric 2 in 225 40 r18) they already look much much better

View post on imgur.com

But they didn't fit... The fender touched the tyre. So i bought some 10mm spacers for the front (Didn't have enough money for spacers in the back, but bought them later )

So this was my x1 in april 2015

View post on imgur.com

I really liked the look of the car now, but for the back something was still missing.... So I drove with my girlfriend to germany and picked up this bumper and sideskirt

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

And fitted:

View post on imgur.com

Oh i also changed to M Look on the cluster:

View post on imgur.com

After this in may 2015 I got some nice depo v2 for my birthday

Before:

View post on imgur.com

And after:

View post on imgur.com

I really love my x1 in this picture:

View post on imgur.com

Ah and i nearly forgot, i bought the much needed rear spacer:

View post on imgur.com

Also changed to black indicators:

View post on imgur.com

And I found a cool x5

View post on imgur.com

I got this aero spoiler also really cheap (still needs to be painted and mounted)

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

So then i planned to buy some coilovers for the summer of 2015, but then my timing chain started making noises after a quick tour to bmw, they needed to change them, sooo i had to pay 1800€ for the change (new clutch included)

So that were my plans with the coilovers... But i changed another thing.

Performance look exhaust with straight pipe.

And the professional unit changed to white and red:

View post on imgur.com

After the fix of bmw, i finally got it back after 2 weeks.

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

And I went on vacation with it to corsica. And my x1 got stuck haha

View post on imgur.com

But after the expensive repair at bmw, i managed to work some longer, and to afford finally the coilovers. Bought a nice set of Bilstein b14.

So this was last year. What did I do this year? Not so much, because I am without my car in erasmus semester in Poland. But I managed to get some parts, and some new plans. Before I went to erasmus, i changed the ugly vynil in the interior, and tried first time in my life to skin them with real carbon fiber:

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

They are not perfect, but i made them, so I have to like them which I do.

Also I got a little bit tired of the red/white interior lightning in my car, so together with a new short shifter, and performance poke, my interior now looks like this:

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

I also lowered my car another 2 cm in the back

Looks nice when the spring is compressed:

And started on this project:

View post on imgur.com

Door handle light and black ceiling (maybe alcantara)

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

I got all the parts together, except for the ceiling itself.

And I am thinking of mounting this, what do you think?

View post on imgur.com

And the last part I got:

View post on imgur.com

So on the done list are:

- 18" styling 153 rims
- e82 M pack front bumper
- e87 M pack rear bumper
- e87 M pack sideskirt
- depo v2
- e87 lci high backlights
- Bilstein b14 coilovers

- sport seats
- M steering wheel
- performance knob
- changed all the leds to white/blue
- half a black ceiling
- professional radio
- M look cluster

To do list:

- 135i or 130i brakes
- maybe e82 LCI xenon retrofit with the right FRM
- New rims.... maybe 19" styling 230? 19" styling 405M? 18" Styling 32? 18" BBS RC303?
- mounting and painting the aero spoiler
- mounting and painting the x3 shark fin
- maybe mounting kerscher lip
- tinting back windows 85%
- maybe cic high? or build something myself
- retrofit door handle illumination
- chip the engine with dpf off
- performance exhaust
- performance sideskirt
So that was it, i hope you enjoyed the car as much as I did Thanks for reading.

Thank you very much

Right now I am thinking to get the car remapped to 180-190 hp and 400 nm, so that will probably be done in july or august... First need to mount my spoiler and x3 fin

Very nice project. 👍
Fun with the small details that make a big difference. Is it difficult to change the color of stereo?

Thanks! The professional stereo is one of the most difficult pieces to change color, it has like 85 small 0805 leds to change.

So my plans for this summer are:

- mounting my aero spoiler
- tinting rear windows
- installing the door lights
- black alcantara ceiling
- mounting shadowline
- remap to 190 hp
- lower it in the front
- 18" AEZ sydney wheels (will buy maybe next year 19" and keep these for winter) in 8x18 et42. I know 19" looks better, but i have still really new 225 40 r18 tyres, and as i want to keep them for winter, 225 35 r19 wintertyres get too expensive

Here a quick photoshop of the wheels (and lowered a bit in the front)

So since last time i posted there were a few changes

Attention: LOTS of pictures

First thing i did was install the new parts i got:

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

Much better

Went to a meeting:

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

Then I bought some shadowline trims:

View post on imgur.com

And installed, lots of work for some glossy trims

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

But i really like it.

Lowered it some more, because too high

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

Then i finally gave my spoiler and the x3 shark fin (i already had it for more than a year) to the painter and got them fitted

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

Then I drove around a bit like that. But I grew tired of those rims, so I got new ones

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

Styling 101 in 8x19 et37 with 215 35 r19 Kumho Ku39 and 9x19 et39 with 225 35 r19 Kumho Ku39. In the pictures I had to higher the car because they were rubbing too much.

So after that got sorted out, i lowered it again

View post on imgur.com

And went to the first meeting with new wheels

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

I also got this performance suspension strut bar:

View post on imgur.com

And a quick recap of all the stages of the transformation

View post on imgur.com

Then i retrofitted the door lights:

View post on imgur.com

View post on imgur.com

After driving some time around like this i wanted to get lower. So i sold the bilstein b14, and bought an H&R Deep 110 by ah exclusive parts

What do you want to know? I bought the LED modules for each door, then the correct pins, and pulled cables from each door to the footwell module, pin 10 for left side, and pin 11 for right side

Thank you. It is from an e90
