Anyone Order a 128i?
I think this site should be called the "135addict" because the 128i is largely ignored. Twin turbos will do that, I guess. Anyway, has anyone here ordered a 128i? Are they allocated along with the 135i or is there a separate allocations for 135's and 128's? Are dealers more willing to discuss discounts on the 128?
Honestly, I love what the 135i stands for, but I wish BMW didn't go to twin turbos to get it done. I find it curious that the e46 ZHP is only 0.1 second slower than the 135i 0-60 with a non-turbo motor. I tend to keep my cars a long time if I like them, so the long term wear on a turbo engine concerns me. If I was going to own the car for 4 years or less, it wouldn't be an issue. I think the 128i will demonstrate it's worth, too. If anyone ever gets around to testing the thing! |

i was set on getting the 128....but then i read about how they will phasing out the 128 into the 130 and i knew that resale would be a pain... so i am saving every penny till march to get the 135i
No doubt a great car....esp since bmw is known for the great NA inline 6 but i couldnt ignore the numerous awards the n54 engine won...like the wards award which is huge

Don't want Two 1-series forums
just want to know if anyone has ordered a 128i, or if anyone has even seen a review of the car? Wish there was more discussion of the 128i, but I undrstand the 135i excitement.

I called every dealership in the state and some wanted US MSRP money for a ED car. I am in the process of placing an order with a dealer who is willing to go below ED MSRP, but only slightly. |

I for one like the 128, and can't wait for pricing(Canadian that is) so that I finally decide if I'm buying or not...and if so, it's going to be a loooong couple of months till it shows up |

This is my first post. I just ordered a 128i cabrio. Cashmere silver, taupe interior and black top. Automatic (my wife needs to drive it). The videos on edbmw.com hooked me. Should get the car in March.

If I could get a 130i with the Brembo brakes and full sport suspension, I would probably get it instead of the 135i. I suspect others feel the same way and BMW understands this. |

I really want to order a 128i. I work for a dealership chain that owns a BMW dealership. I have talked to the owner and was told to expect $1500 mark up because the 1 will be so "limited". Maybe they're just doing this on the 135i. But this is just insane, I thought since I was an employee they'd help me get below sticker at the least. So I don't know what my next move is. I think I'll try to get them to do sticker and order now, or go somewhere else for MSRP (which might not be a good idea), or just order a 328i. I want to lease, so the 3 might be cheaper. Any suggestions?

The 35 as opposed to the 28 is like the chick with a small B cup and one with a D cup. The B cup may be a better lay at times and more fun long term, but the D will tend to get a little more attention.

In response to ARES45, the analogy of breast size to 1-series model number made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. I get it, I really do, but I think you put car enthusiasts in a bad light with that kind of talk. Granted, that is just my opinion.
Give BMW credit for giving the 128 almost no press compared to the 135. It is a business, and they want you buying the most expensive car possible. So they push the 135 and don't talk about the 128. Plenty of people will buy 128's when they are sitting on dealer's lots. But for those of us that are reading forums, waiting for dealer allocations, etc. BMW has done a great of job of directing the hype at the 135. And why shouldn't they? It is faster 0-60 than a 335 and as fast 50-75 as the new M3, and cheaper than both. Probably sounds silly, but for me, the 18" wheels on the 135 make the car. And if you are leasing, and looking at a $5K difference, why not get the car that is destined to put a grin on your face when you drive it? |

I feel bad that I have ignored the 128i. The car is a great value in my humble opinion. Leave out the frivolous options you can have a BMW with 230hp for 30-32k before tax, maybe even less. So it comes down to if you want a fully loaded Accord or Camry or a 128i. For a family guy Accord or Camry is a no brainer but for a young single person the 128i has more appeal. I am trying to decide what my parents should buy my first for her first car.
Volvo C30, 128i, Accord Coupe or make her earn her way and get her a Civic. Which I love dearly as a commuter.

I haven't ordered one, but my interest too runs more to the 128i. I am 37 so I guess I think a little more in practical terms (even while indulging my younger/performance side, ala BMW), and I'm a teacher (so finances intrude on my thinking somewhat). 220hp in such a small and light car and the 128 is going to be fast and a lot of fun too- look at the 4 bangers in most of the cars in its size range. I've enjoyed the 220hp of the 328i when given it as a loaner by the dealer, and the same engine in the lighter car will be nice. Certainly, it will be a major improvement over my 2003 325i with 184hp (which is no slouch compared to most of what is on the road). On the other side you have the normally aspirated engine instead of a twin-turbo so it should be more reliable and last a lot longer and I suspect that real world mileage (as opposed to EPA numbers) should be a little better and you save several thousand dollars while still getting a real performer.
Now, with the pricing that's come out I probably won't be getting it at all (it is about $2k too much to be worth it to me). Instead, I'll pay near the same (in the mid-$30K range which is what this car will be with normal options, an extra $1-3K is nothing) and get a more substantial car and get a 328 (which will be cheaper on lease right now), an Acura TL, a Caddy CTS or an Infiniti G35, or save some money and get a loaded up Camry SE V6 or Accord V6. |

I have to agree with you, I don't see the 1 series having a 130i. But what i do see is bmw making the base 3 series a 330i and a power increase in the 335i (350 hp). That way people have more of an incentive to get the 3 series considering a stripped 135i costs less than a loaded 328i. The 135i would stay at a respectable 300 hp(actually 330 bhp according to Dinan's new tests) None of this has been confirmed but it makes sense. Btw... when the e46 3 series came out, the 323i had 170 hp, and the 328i had 190hp. That's not very much of a difference. So 260 hp for a 130i and 300+hp for the 135i is not impossible. :headbang: |
