Check it out - Video demonstration of the cp-e Standback EMS

cp-e finally finished the closed-loop boost control system for their N54 engine management system. I followed their progress on it for many months actually. Two key points to mention about this product: 1. It is end-user tunable. That means the customer may tune the vehicle however they'd like, and are not bound to "canned maps" that may or may not be ideal for the vehicle's modifications or environmental conditions. So now you can actually tune these things on the dyno for the most power possible. 2. It features REAL boost control (that they've worked very very hard on). You set the pressure, and the Standback will make it happen. We're not piggybacking off of the factory boost control so you don't get inconsistent pressure that's simply 'higher' than stock. You dial it in for 12psi, and it'll hold 12psi. The end-user may adjust the engine's air/fuel ratio, ignition advance, and boost pressure using the Standback, and changes can even be made on the fly. Pretty cool stuff, and should be available shortly for under $1000. Thought you guys might be interested in seeing another tuning suite on the market to choose from. |

I was told that they would be releasing the Standback with a base tune. So it will come more or less dialed in for the vehicle out of the box. That should make for a great starting point for tweaking

That's a good question. I asked them and they told me that they're working on the wiring harnesses for the initial batch. From what I could gather they're close to release, but I wasn't able to get any specifics.

Thats pretty frikkin impressive capabilities. Its about time somebody developed a comprehensive tuning option for this engine. Not that I'm in the market, but coming from a aftermarket turbo for Mazda3, I really appreciate the flexibility this kind of software provides. Nice job guys.

I think this is the first thing we've seen that will allow for custom dyno tunes. Well done!

Are you actually tuning the car like DINAN so you are setting new values so that you would not be setting off a tuner code since you are not tricking the ECU you are actually saying these are now the correct values? Or if you do set them off can you erase them with this? Can you download the stock program and save it so that you can reprogram the car before service? This could be a great new product good luck with it.

So in the other thread there was discussion of how a flat boost curve wouldn't always be desirable. Regardless of how you feel about it, we wanted to demonstrate that the cp-e control is not limited to a single number, flat curve.
The boost control is simply amazing. Again, this is only possible because of the vacuum controlled wastegates but it is absolutely clear that we can do whatever we want with boost. |

So will this be easy enough for an inexperienced tuner to use? I know I don't want to go above 14 PSI, so knowing that is this safe for me to use with out much knowledge? And do I need a computer in the car to change the boost or are you guys going to come out with some type of boost controller I can install in the ashtray or such?
Also, can this be removed and any tampering codes be removed with the Bavarian Technic or GT1? |
