Valentine one install help

Hello all,

I’ve had my one series for a few years now. It was pre wired for a V1 from the previous owner. I just recently updated my V1 and wanted to fix the issue when I put my sunroof back the V1 turns off. Please advise what wire it should be installed to so it will work w/ the sunroof open. Currently it is hooked up to the green & gray wire.

Thanks,
b

Assuming it's wired directly into the mirror/sunroof module? Honestly I'd run it to the accessory port in the fuse box. Not hard and a little less sketchy than tapping wires up top.

There are two recommended methods for hardwiring a RD-
Sunroof controls: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...09&postcount=1

Main fuse box: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...8&postcount=81

I've been sunroof on the green & white switched lead for years and multiple RD's with no problem.

I wired my dash camera to that second posted link...

https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...8&postcount=81

Used position #5 fuse and that ground torx. I did NOT pull off the A-pillar and all. I simply pulled back the rubber door gasket and tucked the wires up under that door seal.

Make sure you use a switched +12v source for your detector. Use a volt meter to confirm the power source before you button up everything.

The overhead console which contains the sunroof button and lights is not a good power source for a radar detector or other peripherals. I attempted to wire my V1 up there in my first 135i as I've done in various other BMWs, but ran into the same sunroof issue as you. Eventually I undid all my previous work and did it via a add-a-fuse as others have suggested here. If you search around, you'll find me saying the same thing in a few other threads.

And yet others have great results from the sunroof...

Still, considering it takes an extra fifteen minutes, give or take, to run the wires down behind the glove box... Yeah, if I had to pick one method guaranteed to produce trouble-free results that would be the method I'd recommend.

And it's arguably easier than fighting to pull the sunroof control panel down- that thing is a bitch to remove without damaging the headliner!

Nevertheless, my wires are to the sunroof, and have never had a problem. Maybe the V1 just sucks a crap-ton of current...

It's extremely easy if you do it right. It basically comes down on its own.

You have to remove the bolts from the sun visors (only the ones close to the dome), that'll drop the headliner.
Then you put your hand over the headliner close to the windshield and push the dome down.
In mine it doesn't even require force, just finding the metal clips and pushing on them.

Is that how you do it?

I didn't remove the sun visor bolts-
can totally see how that would have made life much easier!

That's a good trick. I might take a peep up there just to see where I can conceal my V1.

On the note of installation again, just this week I hardwired in my V1 and Dashcam to fuse 05. Works great. I'll just copy/paste my post from another thread with more info if you're interested:

Got a pretty kitted out Valentine One yesterday and got it all hardwired in. Also finally hardwired my dashcam with an idle controller so it will record a time-lapse once parked and automatically switch off once the battery hits a certain voltage. I tapped fuse 08 for the exhaust cutout and used fuse 05 for the camera and V1. Main power from the camera is actually a direct lead to the battery so it's just pulling a signal from the fuse rather than power, fuse 05 is an ignition circuit so both come on right when I start the car which is perfect since I can keep it in accessory mode without the V1 beeping away at things and the camera recording for no reason.

The V1 I purchased came with the LE Bluetooth adapter, remote display, and an extra hardwire kit. It took forever to run all the wires yesterday so the V1 is just on my visor for now but I'm thinking of running it to the back of the car somewhere and setting up the concealed display on the dash. Need to do some exploring of options on this as I want the main unit hidden but in a good spot for front/rear detection. Might even see if I can mount it to the back seat lighting cluster. I've seen some really cool mounting ideas with the concealed display, people have even moved the guts to a gauge pod before. Excited to have some more gadgets!

Here's the two installation DIY's I followed:

I think that I’m gonna have to wire it that way. I don’t drive w/ my windows down and sunroof back often however I do like my V1 on.
