I got sport/step/paddles/xenon. Not really stripper, but still low $30's. At this price I feel it is a great value. If you bulk it up to $40k, then maybe not.
The base value of the car is its BMW engineering, balance, smooth I6 with good power. This is a pretty unique combo in this range. |

I'm very much considering a 128i with only the Sport package and possibly metallic paint. The car is hardly stripped, and most of those options are things I don't want. Oh, wait, I'll add leather as well - I hate leather, but with the base option being fake leather, I figure you may as well get the good stuff. What I *really* want are the cloth seats from Yurp...

128 w/sport pkg, leather and HD radio.
Great deal also on european delivery for July . Many dealers said no ED. But called the last one and he said no problem and even discounted below ED MSRP! Great experience after a couple of atrocious BMW dealers. Highly recommended if you leave in NYC/LI area. If desired I will post his business name. |

I'm likely to go for 128i, sport package, iPod adapter, Crimson Red (or possibly Jet Black) and black leatherette. That covers all the essentials for me.
None of the other options really interest me for the price BMW is asking. I'd like premium stereo and comfort access, but that's nearly $2,000 in Canada - not worth it for me. Leatherette is as good as leather, IMO, which saves $1,900 and I have an issue with paying $800 (Cdn $$) for metallic paint. A friend of mine who runs a successful body shop thinks charging extra for metallic paint is absurd and is a total ripoff... The material and production costs for a metallic paint application are of a negligible difference compared non-metallic paint. And I really think that for a brand new, cutting edge, 2008 model year, hip, premium brand car, the iPod adapter and comfort access should be standard features. Everybody and their dog has an iPod or an MP3 player and Honda Civics come with a connection. In fact, keep the damn CD player and just put in the iPod/USB interface. Within the lifespan of this car, we'll have all but done away with CDs. And the new Toyota Corolla comes with "comfort access" as a standard feature.

Get the Sport Package
If nothing else, get the Sport package. You'll be sorry if you don't. At $1200 MSRP it's a steal. The non-sport seats suck. Drove a 128i without Sports package on Saturday. The seats were horrible. Also drove a 135i with the Sports package. The sport seats were amazing! Plus, who wants a BMW without the sports suspension? That's just nuts!

I agree. Do not get a BMW without the sport seats. Basically they make or break the car and hurt during resale since most people will usually try to get a car with sport seats. I would say BMW + Sport = A Great Stripper

Just to make sure you know, all 1-series come with the line-in connection; the iPod/USB adapter is additional. So if you don't get the option, you can still hook up an iPod via the 3.5mm connection. When I saw the iPod option, I thought "you're kidding me - no connection is standard?" but upon looking into it further, I learned that a line-in is standard on all models.

I registed after reading this post, of course I want a stripper
The 128i stripper that is. I've been dreaming about a 128i stripper since I fell in love with the car. Yeah I want a 135i, who doesn't. But for $5000 less you get a differently wonderful car. The heavier 328i sedan cleans up in comparison tests against cars with the 135i's power(g35, is350). This will be the same engine in a more nimble lighter(I know, couple hundred lbs.)car. I'd rather have a car I can redline in the first couple gears without going to jail. I'm sure I can't drive past 80% of the 128i's potential without a couple weekends of driving school. The 128 should have a sub-6 second 0-60, as fast as the old e36 M3. I know cars are faster now on average, but that's still fast to me. I'm not going to track my new 128i, so I don't need incredible brakes; BMW brakes have always been great for the street. I love the 128i's bumpers and fog lights as much as the 135i aero kit, too.
Back to the stripper, alpine white and taupe(love the two tone interior, if I could actually afford this car nobody would get my taupe dirty so I'm not worried about the light color; I think tan interiors make cars look classier, and for some reason I like the tan/grey color of the taupe) with gloss black trim of course. I wish I could say I could go with the complete strip, but you've GOT TO HAVE THE SPORT PACKAGE, even if it was just the seats for $1200(then they better have lumbar!). I would sell the wheels and tires right off and get some lightweight 17x8 all around, probably only end up spending a couple hundred dollars. I would wait to put my xenon money into some euro unit's without the *%$#@!ing amber B.S.. Wish they would do cloth and no sunroof for another grand off. If they would go cloth, I wouldn't have to order heated seats, my one other concession. Even if I didn't live somewhere cold, heated seats can soothe an achy back. Price with destination-$29,375 Sport- 1200 Heated Seats-500 Total-$31,075 Not bad. 135i base w/dest-$35,675 $4600 difference. That being said, it would be hard to buy a loaded 128i that cost more than a base 135i. That's why I'll wait and buy a two year old 128i for $20k. No I won't. I'll buy a 100,000 mile one in 5 years for $10K! Joe C. slc,ut 92' 535im 84' 4000q |

I really don't get the whole enthusiasm about the sport package. I understand some people prefer the sport seats, but for the everyday driver who won't be going up and down the curves of the countryside does it really matter to get the sport suspension and wheel setup? I think its bothersome to have wheels you can't rotate (one size in front, another in rear) properly, especially if you're going to make the 128 your daily driver. The suspension stock is plenty stiff for my needs, which of course is on-ramps and off-ramps...and nothing really else.
Anyone wanna chime in and change my mind? |
