It's just a difference in use of the word. It's commonly used here to describe "pulling" someone off the line.

Gotcha, you use it to mean when you get out of the hole faster than your opponent or "get the jump" on them. In other words a better RT by a good margin. In drag racing circles a holeshot win is a great feeling because you beat a better equipped opponent (faster car) by virtue of better skill (RT).

In drag racing, a "holeshot" refers to a victory in which a driver runs a quicker elapsed time (E.T.), but loses the race due to a slower reaction time at the start.

A hole shot win is when the car with the fasted elapased time did not cross the finish line first.

Actually most of the time I see holeshots from the losing side of the track! For those of us racing late model IRS turbo cars, we often see a live axle muscle car stomp our short time and get a much better ET for a given trap speed.

Yep, I am from LA. I would like to go back to a track, but my car car is stock right now. Because I will be moving to Italy next month. So I have a lot of things to do, before I leave.
