I may not get that time in my car but I'm sure I could do it in someone else's 135i.

It's the same skills you would use launching at the dragstrip. I doubt it would take more than a few tries to determine the best rpm to release the clutch. Probably around 3500 rpm. Easy to do but hard on the car.

Every car make and model runs different no matter what the dyno #'s are. Think about the Ls based GM motors that pull low 12's with around 400rwhp. There are too many factors that go along with all these newer cars that throw consistant times out the window. A great example is the Nissan GT-R that ran an 11.xx then a 12.xx on back to back runs. So is it an 11 sec car or a 12 second car??? I think the 135i is a mid to low 13 second car that someone may get a 12.99 out of someday bone stock on the right track. Last thing...DR's and slicks can shave off .5 or more with a good launch; your 60' time determines your 1/4 mile time...

I agree as far as the above goes. I don't think the GTR is a valid comparsion so much because AWD launches are very hard to nail.
Some cars have less drivetrain loss, better suspension, and even aerodynamics. I always had the thought that dynos are for tuning, drag strip is for proving, otherwise your car is a nice looking car with a s*** driver. If your going for drag wheels you might want something lighter than stock less unsprung weight, depending on how you like to launch. The turbos are small on the 135, but hiting the launch into boost without bogging or spinning too much is the big concern. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Brand you can also change tire size to effectively change your final drive ratio. If you hit the perfect balance there is no reason you can't shave off close to half a second if your an average driver on a street car with lighter rims and drag radials, if your gods gift to drag then maybe not. |
