Birthday Ring trip
My B-day is August 9th, which falls on a thursday this year and also I believe is the day before a 4 day weekend. I am thinking about spending my 30th on the Ring and it would be nice to get a good size group together. I talked to Rikx and he threw out some ideas; stay over night at Spangdahlem for the night and hit the Ring early the next day, which I think is a great idea for those of us that live far away from the Ring. The question is for the people that can make it that weekend, which day is better for hitting the Ring, Saturday or Sunday? I've heard that are less cars there on Saturday so everyone check your schedules and see what is best for you.

Humm... I'm interested!
Instead of staying on base... maybe we can find a hotel to "invade" like we did in Stelvio!

I'd be in favor of driving up Friday night, meeting for a late dinner then hitting the 'Ring early Saturday the 11th. I'm in Wiesbaden and have an extra parking spot and a guest room if someone needs to make a stop on the way. Maybe we could do something special like this: Historical Backstage tour Trip back in time to discover the Nürburgring history € 140,- per group

Have to check if I can take off, if so I would say Saturday would be better.

I'm in for that...whatever you guys decide...Sat/Sun/Mon...we need to see if there are any races that weekend that would interfere with that plan.
The nice thing about staying on base is the super plus at the gas station but either on or off is fine with me. The 'Ring is the last track I need to run my 1M on so I can consider it "blessed" and "baptized". I've done Spa and Hockenheim...only missing the 'Ring for my unofficial but personal goal trifecta.

Some of us tank at Esso religiously! All gas blends on base have at least 5% ethanol - even the SuperPlus grade. While the SuperPlus at Esso is only gasoline, and contains no ethanol! Btw... there is an Esso direct on the A3 just before you switch to the A3/E48 autobahn. Its only like 60kms from the 'Ring... that is where I always tank up at. Its Justin's birthday so we should do something special and stay somewhere cool. Maybe somewhere with some Motorsports fame to it.

Guys, according to the schedule, 11/12 (Sat/Sun) are open from 1500-1900. They have a oldtimer event on the GP course. I can ask my wife to call and see what's up to see if it's a typo. I have to see if I can make this one. Luck hasn't been on my side lately.
Also, since I'll be in transition to Stuttgart during that time.......would someone be nice enough to store my "track" wheels so they aren't with the movers in temp storage That way I don't beat on the dailys on a track.

I think I might have that weekend off. Of course that may be the weekend we have a big inspection too so I'll have to check. How close to the ring do you guys want to stay? Spangdahlem is about an hour away from the ring but I might be able to find somewhere closer.

I'm always down with a trip to the Ring. If the times are incorrect and it opens early I recommend the earlier the better. I'm good with staying on or off base although it might be hard to get rooms onbase if we're not TDY etc. It's good for me as it's just a short run from Ramstein for me.

I'm open to all input and suggestions from anyone. If someone knows a good hotel that's not terribly expensive throw it out there. One thing that i think would be cool to do is grab some coffee or whatever at the cafe that Sabine Schmitz's mom owns that's by the Ring. Thats more of one of those I would give my left arm to meet her type deals and it would be pure luck if she was at her moms cafe.

I like the idea of coffee at possibly staying at the am-tiergarten. Even though I'm close to the ring I'd stay there that night for that......maybe some food, BS'ing, and "grudge" races at the Kartobahn the night before?
I'm about 45min away but if a couple of you brought your own sleeping bag I could sleep two at my place. I hopefully could arrange for some off street parking for two cars. There is a great Karto Bahn in my town and I'm within walking distance of restaurants and a billiards bar.

single bed - 35 € to 55 € double bed - 27,50 € to 45 € and includes breakfast! The problem with Sabine's parents place is there is very limited parking from what I remember when I have driven by it. I have driven past the WaldHotel, it looks decent. Its right by Hohe Acht on the B-412 off to the right as you drive into the Brunchen and the Ring. Has anyone stayed there before?

What do you guys think about this...
BMW M Experience. BMW M Power Insider. Experience the BMW M3 Coupé, where the high-performance sports car from BMW M genes that are breathed into: the "Green Hell". You take a look behind the scenes of the BMW M Test Centre at the Nürburgring. After a detailed briefing you can follow your passion and feel the typical M Power on the track very closely. The subsequent lunch is the best opportunity for an inspiring experience with other participants. In the subsequent technical workshop will give you our BMW test engineers provide background information on the technology of the BMW M vehicles. http://www.bmw.de/de/de/insights/driving_experience/drivertraining/booking.html?prm_action=true&&$category=M%20Power% 20Experience&$variant=M%20Power%20Insider August 1st or August 2nd. cost: 650 euros. 9am to 5:30 pm. Maybe I can contact them and see if they can make us a special date? Or maybe we just want to do the insider tour at the "skunk works" in Nurburg ? (IF they will let us in???)

I'm liking this idea here. Only about two hours from the Ring but would consider a room if a large enough group is going. Saturday would work best for me though
