Just got back from a day at Summit Point Shenandoah. First time out with the new diff, as well as new Porterfield R4 brake pads.
The Diff: The car is so much more settled, so much more predictable, and is just more involving to drive quickly around the track. It does all the good RWD stuff and fundamentally changes the driving experience (for the better)... Plus, the gear ratio really woke the motor up, it pulls hard (oil temps took a hit though)... The Brakes: HOLY SMOKES! The R4's are insane! So much bite, so much power, and so much fade resistance. I should've done race pads a long time ago. They are (were) surprisingly streetable, with strong bite and no weirdness (other than a screech that echoed for miles through small town Virginia). One word summed-up the new braking situation: confident. I feel good about the brakes, and feel good about taking the car down to VIR on Thursday... The Dirty: I washed the car on Saturday, it now looks like death. I spent a lot of time on the skid pad familiarizing myself with the car's new behaviors and tendencies... The Nitty-Gritty: Cross-rotated the tires and bled the brakes for VIR, as well as putting the R4-S pads on. I'm going to swap the R4's in at the track... All in under an hour, in the driveway (top-loading calipers are AMAZING)

You said it took only 45 minutes to install... What about alignment?

For alignment, they are pretty close out of the box, but I need some time to refine the alignment. They have external adjusters, easy to adjust. I would guess 20 minutes would do it, if that.

Those look like Spyder brand lights. I had them for a couple years and was pleased with them. I wired the halo rings with a splice to my fog light connection so you could turn on or off as you'd like. It worked and I never had any issues.

I just ordered a Coby alcantara wheel. Here is a preview he sent. Will hopefully get it this week and install. It's the OE 9040 black alcantara to match the BMW Performance products

Thanks! I think the Grey color he has will match the lighter 1M alcantara. He said the Black matches the BMW Performance parts for the E8x/E9x so that's what I'm going with to match my shift and e-brake boot.

I went with the E82 regular sport steering wheel (he has the thicker M sport wheel too). It cost $225 for the wheel with stripe, then there is a core deposit which you get back when you send your wheel back to him. So all in $225

Today was the first dry road day since doing mhd stage 2 on saturday. Holy shit. Such a difference it makes. Really happy with how things are progressing.
What are people using for mhd options? I just started looking into all the options they have for settings. Side note, I set my date/weekend to move down to Clearwater, FL for September 15th. Anyone gonna be local? Last edited by low135; 08-20-2018 at 12:07 PM.. |
