1M Power steering pump change + Disasymble a broken pump

Hi everyone, I would like to share this piece of information regarding the 1M steering pump, in case anybody needs it, as myself tried to find something before but there wasn't any

I would like to put a photo of my car in the beginning first

Now about the steering pump

I finally get it done

My car had a problem with power steering since 2 years ago but it only affects the parking

If I don't rev the engine above 1200rpm then I don't have any assist, the steering is just unsteerable, so I always have to press the clutch and throttle to get more assist when I steer

Initially, I tried to find a 1M pump from the scrap yard but it was impossible to find, and the brand new one was quoted for around 2000USD in China from the dealer.

Until last week, I get this pump from a guy who doesn't have an idea which BMW model it was fitted to, the price was around 400USD

As you can see the pump itself looks identical to the 1M pump,

only the fluid inlet looks different(1M has 20mm outer diameter, this one is 16)

but according to the date on the pump, it was manufactured in 2008(the grey cover piece is made in 2007), also the part number sticker is gone

I only have to put another rubber hose on the fluid inlet so I can mate it with the hose on my car which as a 20mm inner diameter

I am very curious which BMW model it once belonged to, it's not the 335i pump, nor the M3 pump, anyway, it works well on my 1M

i always thought the whole steering system in our cars were directly pulled out of the M3 and tweaked? I guess that doesn't include the steering pump?

what is the part number on the steering pump?

Looks like it could be from a n62. Only difference being the hub the pully mounts too.
Part no. 32416762158

Another possibility is that it was a Frankensteined from a active steering pump from a e60 n52 (possibly from another) part no. 32416769766. Looks like that solenoid or whatever can come off if you remove the bolt holding it on and replace it with the threaded nut that the regular units have

I attached some pictures of a power steering pump listing for 32416769766Name: Screenshot_20231122_060555_eBay.jpg

Seems pretty clear in the OP's photos that the original pump has larger diameter plumbing than what he replaced it with. If your 1M's power steering pump fails, I would buy a new E9x M3 pump and swap the guts to the 1M pump's housing.
