New iPod Interface
Hi,
I as mentioned on my other thread, I am considering buying a new E90 soon. I have heard and read about the new MOST iPod Adapter that BMW will be offering in the US from July. I rang BMW GB and they say although they know that BMW US have announced in BMW UK have no information on it. Can anyone tell me if and when it will come to the UK, and whether or not it is likely to replace the standard spec iPod Adapter fitted at the moment or it will be a chargeable option. Thanks for your help |

I have just bought a 330i which I am picking up next wek. I told the CA I wanted the new ipod adapter. He knew nothing about it - just referred to the AUX output. I referred him to http://www.ipodyourbmw.com. He said he would order what was needed however as he knew nothing and I am not sure of its availability yet, I dont know whether or not I will get it now.
He will find out and I will let you know what happens. |

Its not available anywhere yet
It will be available everywhere It will be realeased sometime July, but ofcourse supply would depend on stocks available from the parts warehouse in Germany and wether your dealer has the correct software to update the car. Im shure supply would be pretty limited when it is first released due to high demand. It will be a dealer fitted option on all cars

New IPOD interface
I had the New BMW IPOD interface fitted just a week or so ago and it is simply fantastic. Everything controlled from the steering wheel - they change the buttons ! - and on non idrive facia's you get an additional pod on the dashboard that shows you the detail on the menu item or the track or artist...
Costs around £330 fitted in the UK. Even the stock system sounds great since you can equalise using the IPOD and then add more using the Radio controls. So now my music sounds even better. Very Highly Recommended ! |

One other thing...
With the new interface, you take control of the IPOD and the charging of it by connecting via the menu steering wheel button but if your fellow passenger wants to control the music, you just change source to AUX and use the IPOD as normal.
When you connect to the IPOD through the interface, you lose the ability to control it via the IPOD's built in controls. So to go back to the IPOD control, just press and hold menu on the steering wheel, the IPOD disconnects and then it plays through the AUX port as normal. |

I hope in the future software update we can have a cool little iPod icon on the radio/Nav if you have MOST installed.

Hi Jason - yes I will take some pics now and post them later.... the non idrive cars have a little screen added to the middle vent on the facia. Connection to the ipod is in the armrest and its a must have install and a good reason to get an ipod over a cd changer in my opinion.

Thats interesting.... and confusing too.
The part I had fitted is the one shown in REALOEM - part number 65410404330. Installation guide is dated November 2005 and the UK press release was done end of March 2006. Most dealers here know nothing about it and there are only 10 kits in the country at last enquiry. I was lead to believe this was the latest kit. But then again the UK dealership I bought my car from wanted to charge we 4.5 hours labour for fitting it plus parts which would come to over £700 or $1200 !! It would appear that the main change is with fact that you don't need the extra display and that this is done with the radio display which to be honest would have been the most desirable option in the first place.... Very confused but highly satisfied with the solution nonetheless !! |

Let me explain the differences. The new Interface not a change, it´s an entirely different kit. Your kit is a kind of kludge, that´s why they replace the buttons and need the display. It cannot communciate with the MOST bus at all. The new Interface (which sits on the MOST bus) looks like an enhanced CD changer for all intents and purposes.

Thanks JSpira for your explanation. Perhaps someone from BMW should talk to their dealers in the UK to explain the situation properly.
The word 'kludge' is a little strong since functionally it seems to have all the features that the IPOD has except the ability to change the equalisation. The sound quality seems to be better than from the CD due to the EQ enhancement alone and this will be the case with the newer kit from BMW. |
