Comfort access issues
Hey gang,
Does anyone have problems with their comfort access not always working 100% of the time? I'll reach for the door handle and nothing happens. I'll then try with the other hand, twisting my body and moving the key around (which is in my pocket) and sometimes that helps. Other times I look like an idiot and eventually just grab my key and manually unlock it. Also happens with my trunk. I'll hear the mechanism but nothing happens. Is this normal or is my key defective? I charge it periodically but I've never received a low battery warning.

I believe this is normal for the 1 series. CA worked better on my 5 series, especially for the trunk.

Curious: Do you have window tint? If so what kind? I have heard, not from many, that some window tints, especially those with metal, may interfere with comfort access.

I'm using SolarGard NR Charcoal tints, 17%... But they aren't metallic TMK. I think the HP series is, though. It works sometimes though, wouldn't that suggest it's something else?
OAM: It's a setting in iDrive. Under locks I think. Something about unlocking just drivers door or both doors when hitting the unlock button. Also applies to comfort access. |

Make sure you insert the key fob next the start/stop from time to time to recharge it. Decreased charge -> decreased reliability.

In my case, it works all the time problem free if the car is in my garage or at the work place garage, but for example in gas stations and some other places that I assume with interference issues the car usually fails to start again without the key in place. In general, I don't call it a problem, already got used to it, and CA is one of the options that I am glad to have.

It is always in gas stations here, for example I go there, the key is in my pocket, I fill in, pay and when I get inside the car again and press the button, it reads like there is no key in place with the relevant image appearing, then I put the key in and it works. Never happened any other place so I am assuming the car is loosing the signal when I get out and move away a little bit to pay etc. and failing to restart. I will try next time leaving the key inside the car if I feel that it is safe there or if I am with second key also (in case).

Although I have to say that CA is one of those things that once you get used to it you realize it's missing when you don't have it. |

That would annoy me. I don't have it on my 1-series (although I wanted it), but I do have it on my Japanese Crossover. It has never failed to open the doors or start the car. I can't imagine it not working 100%. |

If you have your phone in the same pocket as the fob you will occasionally get this type of behavior, especially if the key is behind the phone.

Mine works 100% and I have tinted windows, but I have carbon tint so no metal in it. The metallic films are apparently the ones that affect CA performance.
