It might be dealer standard but definitely not Australian standard.

If that.. There is no way that 100 have been delivered so far.The way BMW has staggered production to Oz. Most dealers had three allocations over 9 months in 2011.

I drove the 1M at Ascari race track yesterday. Very good track car out of the box. Losses out to the M3 on traction out of tighter corners. But the track was wet so may be different in the dry.

Personally I think the 1M is a far better road car than track and vice versa for the M3. Just as well because I tend to drive a hell of a lot more on the road than the track.

Worse car on the track out of the three. Well, at Ascari anyway which is a very tight sort of track. Drove 120km on the road too and it didn't impress me either. I'll write some more another time when I'm back in Melbourne. Still in Europe for the next few days with the family.

Still trying to duplicate the so called exhaust drone at 100-110 km/hr in 6th gear.. I only can hear an exhaust note.

I know exactly what a drone is, just cant hear it.

If anything the 1M is so much quiter than my custom exhaust on my vert, BUT still LOVE it..

Also..Anyone with a 1M, came from a 135i 6MT.
I find the clutch pedal on the 1M lighter and the clutch more shuddery on take off at low RPM than the 135i.

Any thoughts?

I thought you were going to have the CDV fixed at Advan or has it nothing to do with it?

CDV goes in next week as Peter is away this weekend.

CDV should only make the releasing of the clutch between gear changes more linear than the jerky release you have when stock.

My 135i felt like I could never stall from take off, so to speak, but the 1M feels more jittery on intial release of the clutch.

drone doesn't come in about 110km with light load around 2100rpm. It worsen as it goes into 2300rpm, and fade after. May be try 80 something in forth?

Now, that makes me think not all car has it. One thing I noticed is that some days it is worse than other days. On a good day, the loudest drone only hits around 81db, and on a bad day, it hits 85db (base on the iPhone db metre).

That's good news Joe. Don't do as most of the other 1M owners do, i.e. start looking for the drone and other forum-noted faults when they are not apparent. Eventually you would or may convince yourself you have them too. If you can't feel or hear it, you don't have it!!

Definitely lighter. Just make sure your M button is on and you will find the clutch actually bites better. I suspect the throttle map is softer in the normal mode than the 135i. I do need to put more throttle and slower clutch release when in normal mode to give a smoother change which is generally good when my wife's in the car (which is never now since the delivery of the X3).

Just trying to see if I can have M button automatically on, and DSC in MDM mode. The normal DSC mode cuts in way too much when coupled with M button pressed.

I've always felt the 1M to be surprisingly easy to drive at low speed. In fact when I was taking delivery one of my anxieties was stalling or bunny hopping the thing out of the showroom thinking there would be a hair trigger clutch engagement, having read about lightened flywheels and such, but much to my relief it was as docile as an old dog.
The CDV doesn't really have a dramatic effect on feel. The difference is quite subtle actually. Another problem is too much take up or travel. I have read elsewhere where people have positive comments about fitting a clutch stop to limit the pedal travel to the floor. This is my next mod when back on the road.

Quite right. One person's complaint is another's happy character trait. I definitely have a drone zone but am happy to accept it if it means having the exhaust note as it is the rest of the time.

Have tried a few a different variations of RPM but still no drone, or what I would consider an annoying exhaust tone..

If this is the worst it sounds, it can only get better once the pipes carbon up.

True gazz.. After only a 30 minute drive back from the dealership after delivery, I was in love at the ease of drive and didn't miss the poor vert as much as I thought I would.

And again you are correct in saying its probably due to the lightened flywheel.
Having the CDV installed mid next week and will note the difference if any.

Good to meet up with you again Ian and put you at ease on VO..

It is TRUELY an amazing colour in the sunlight and to put proof to the pudding, how that passerby stopped and commented on the colour of the car to us while we where standing there.

Even last night whilst valet parking at the airport, all the valet attendants came out to admire the car and give positive comments.

there is definitely a drone at 120kph, and everyone does 120kph on the highway

does anyone know if the akrapovic exhaust gets rid of it cos if so i am up for one

everything else about the car is perfect, absolutely perfect, fast on the streets, really fast at the track, massive presence on the streets at night, for 110k in australia, i am pretty happy
