Garage List
2009 BMW 135i  [5.76]
Finally believe us beemer? :-)

Although remember with the tune the increase isn't as big as the 135i, but should be good for around 15kw over 1M spec. Add some downpipes or FMIC and you'll be laughing!

I personally think a flash on the 1M is the way to go, especially considering how they have come back in price and are now reasonably comparable 'power wise' with the piggybacks with less of the hastle.

Even after your ESS flash, the DME will still remain adaptive, which means that if you do decide on further boltons (bigger intercooler, catless downpipes, exhaust, aftermarket airbox), your ESS tuned DME will be able to capitlize on these additions which will result in further power over what ESS quotes.

And the ESS is the only flash available in Australia for the 1M that has the advantage of a handheld switcher which negates the need to go to a workshop for the flash which is the case with GIAC.

Do a search on the 1M forum for the guys who have done a review of the ESS tune, that should give you some further insight, they all comment on how smooth the tune is with the added advantage of extra power.

It would be good to see what your experience is if you decide to get it, using Australian fuel and in our climate.

Keep us posted if you do get it.

The particular tune Andrew from Southern BM has mentioned above is not for a 135, its for the 'is' versions of the 335i and Z4 and the 1M.

If you have a look at ESS's website you will see that their N54 135i tune comes with two stages for the same price.

Stage 2 of these tunes is the same power output as the stage 1 'is'/1M tune.
These tunes are Australian compatible unlike the COBB tune.

Had Peter at Advan Performance Auburn swap over the CDV yesterday before he started on the dyno's. ( My first mod.. If i don't include the Etag..)

For me, the difference is very noticeable.. I didn't think it would be as the gearbox and shift in the 1M is a big jump from the 135i.

Took the car for a test drive this morning AGAIN through the twisties in RNP Loftus through to Stanwell Tops..mmmmmm

Didn't think I would ever admit, but it is a MUST MOD on any 1er..

If your dealer over writes the file, you just re-read the new file, email file over and then ESS will send another tuned file back.
Andrew, have you got any feedback yet? Does it throw any codes? Would I need to get a BT as well to check and clear code just in case?

I haven't installed on in a 1M.....(hey, i haven't even driven one yet) but i would expect if it works just like they have on the other cars i have used them on, all will be fine. Actually in all the ESS tunes i have done on M5's, M3's and other BMW models, i have always been very pleased with how smooth they drive and the constant power delivery.

What tyre pressures are you guys running for road use?

The placard states 220kp rear and 230 front for two passengers.

It doesn't surprise me that you had different pressures all round after delivery. I mentioned the same thing with mine in an earlier post. They must give the job to the car wash person.

Buy a bleed type gauge, over inflate and bleed to the correct pressure. I run 36 psi all round for aroud town. At the track I bleed them back to 35 all round when hot. Still playing with pressures to soften the lively rear. I think that you will find your tyres will wear on the inside edge, particularly the rears, if you run at recommended pressures.

39 fronts and 35 rear is settling the rear - or may be that's because of the 3mm rear toe in

Stock is 39 all round.

Are you sure?

220Kpa = 31.9 Psi
230 Kpa = 33.36 Psi
