Damnit Matt, you've got a hell of a talent for breaking bad news gently

As for the pic, I'm game for #3 as well

The distribution of anniversary gifts BMW sent annually to us 135 guys seemed to not be an issue. I understand numerous 1Ms have been sold on the used market but its a small fraction, and I would think the majority of those owners know who they sold it to.

Folks, I've been researching this for a long time (back into late 2010 before I even took this position) and I fully appreciate (share) your enthusiasm. The 2011 Daytona 24 pace car would also benefit from having one of these special Start buttons. So here's the bad news...

Badging a car is very expensive. Do some quick math on this example and you'll see what I mean. Without working it into the base price of the car (like some other markets did), we simply don't have a budget to go back and do it retro. I tried to get this car approved for a special badge/button in the US but since global production was a bit fluid we couldn't bring the planets into alignment for the US market. In addition to the aforementioned cost, the logistics of distribution are mind boggling once the cars have been retailed.

I'm giving you the full story so you can understand we've seriously looked at this. I'm sorry we don't have better news, and I know it's not satisfying, but it certainly doesn't reduce the fact that you've got your hands on one of the most collectible BMW models in a twenty year span.

Thanks to my colleagues at BMW Customer Relations for bringing this discussion to my attention and for fielding your inquiries on the subject.

On a final note, we'd love it if some local 1Ms might "occupy Woodcliff Lake" someday as someone above mentioned. Perhaps we can set up a quick visit this summer.
Appreciate your candor Matt. While the news is disappointing, it is not unexpected.

Metak, I've still got $50 I'm ready to send over whenever you say so.

Thx for the update, Matt, despite not what we were hoping for.

All for Occupy Woodcliff this summer!

@Metak

Quite some non-US 1Mers might be interested in getting one. By indicating the 740 figure, only the US 1Mers could be interested. Prepared to consider a version not mentioning the 740 figure ?

I'd say that would have to wait until/if a worldwide production number gets released (which would have to wait until... ?March? when production ends.

Actually, I meant without any figure at all, such as for example "Limited Edition" or "Limited" at the upper side and "///M" at lower side. Quite universal - suits all 1Ms.

Ah, got it. Yeah, that would work too. My original idea before Metak started working on it was to get the "Limited Edition" button from the 130i so that's always an option If nothing is forthcoming from BMW or ///M then uniformity is out the window anyway.

It probably would have been better if AUTOcouture started their own thread rather than threadjacking this one. I've put a lot of time and effort into this. Just saying.

I'll be happy to buy a non-US one from you.

I have been looking for a way to commerate the US vehicles since May of last year in this other thread(below). But you probably "had the idea before me" lol. I will try not to encroach on a vendors potential business in the future.

Childish. All of this. It's not enough to simply own a car of only 740 examples? To each his/her own.

even without saying, we'd know! (Dackel has trained you well my young apprentice ). I forsee a ModeratorMetak2you name change

FYI I'm somewhere in the "No thank you's" as the OEM alu look which I prefer was not listed. I'll go with the 130i Limited Edition version
