Been following this hoping to figure out what i have and how to upgrade it. In conclusion, non of the setups anyone mentioned fits mine (i think).

I have an 08 135i coupe US. I have 2 tweeters in the front by my side mirrors, there are 2 speakers on the doors and two speakers on the deck behind the rear seats. This is a total of 6 speakers. No logos anywhere. The audio adjustments on the radio are endless but ive only really experienced aux input and it sounds ok, not that great, i hear a lot of fuzz. Maybe it will sound better with a CD but who carries those around anymore?

I thought the bass was comming from the 2 rear speakers which would mean i dont have speakers under my seats, if i did i would have 8 speakers total, which as per everything discussed isnt even an option.

So, what do i have? Id like to price out new speakers and amp but im afraid of tearing the interior appart myself.

Thanks!

1-Series 2008 to 2009 = HiFi (10-speakers, analog OEM amp) or Logic7/Premium system (10 speakers, digital OEM amp)

1-Series 2010 = Stereo (6 speakers, no tweeters, no OEM amp) or Logic7/Premium system (10-speakers, digital OEM amp)

1-Series 2011 = Stereo (6 speakers, no tweeters, no OEM amp) or Harman Kardon/Logic7 system (10-speakers, digital OEM amp)

1-Series 2011.5 to 2012 = HiFi (8-speakers, analog OEM amp) or Harman Kardon/Logic7 system (10-speakers, digital OEM amp)

The main difference between HiFi and Logic7/Harman Kardon is the 7-band EQ with the Bass and Treble adjustments in the Logic7.

No EQ = no Logic7/Harman Kardon.

Look under your seats, you almost assuredly have something there.

Holy Jesus... For the 10th time... 2010 models DID NOT HAVE HARMAN KARDON AS AN OPTION! HK was added for the 2011 model year.

Fixed, Jesus-man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, only MY2011 had 6-speakers and no OEM amp as standard in the USA. Every other 1-Series model year in the USA has at least 8-speakers and an OEM amp as standard.

if you roll the seat all the way back you should be able to see a small sub in the floor, looking from the front side. It's only about 6" in diameter and covered by a metal grille.

One of the mods asked if I could stop by and provide some more info, so I'm providing links to the pages that we have published this sort of info on our site:

This page addresses the different BMW factory audio systems.

This page goes into more detail about each system.

This page is a partial list of what was available when in the US.

These pages will be updated in the future with more pics, but even as they are they have been helpful to many folks in the E90 section, and there is E82-specific info there.

Regards,

Ken

Its nice to see the 3 series speaker diagram, but I still feel as though I'm missing 2 speakers or some info is wrong for the 2008 1 series.

I have the 7 band EQ with cinema mode/etc on my head unit
However I have found only 8 speakers:
2x tweeters in the door/a-pillar area
2x mids in the doors
2x mids behind rear seats
2x subs under each front seat

There are no labels on any of my speakers. Am i missing two speakers, or was the premium stereo on 8 speakers in 2008?

Thanks

The 1-series has never had a center speaker and AFAIK only had one set of rears. I think that's why I like the sound of the 1-series Premium more than the 3-series.

See the attached

The attachments I just added to this have been posted before. They are the same as has been said but perhaps will provide enough additional information to be helpful - or maybe the way it is stated will be clearer to somebody.

The base system offered in the US in 2008 and 2009 was the mid-level system in the rest of the world. It has as many speakers as the premium system offering in those years but it also has less power and different speakers. The "base" was the "Hi-Fi" in those years, in other words.
