There is no button for "I don't care".
Refer back to Matticus's French reference in the other thread.

Guess I should've added an "I don't care" option. But then again, if you don't care, don't vote.

And it was mackeroni who put the French tomato, tomahto comment in the other thread.

Hey, don't worry, I know it's still a coupe, because BMW says so. I just wanted to show that BMW's classification as such is based primarily on marketing and the more recent, simplified definition of coupe = 2-door, because the E82 meets most of the traditional, technical definitions of a 2-door sports sedan.

I sold my Porsche coupe and wanted a 2-door sports sedan, so I bought one!

To me, when thinking in terms of 2-door coupes, the E82 is a bit tall and heavy, but, as a 2-door sedan, it's a mean little killer! The E82 is the most sedan'ish coupe I can think of in recent memory.

Might I suggest a vegetable/fruit enthusiast forum instead, if you're not interested in car details??

Not worried at all. Feel free to call it whatever you want; I will call it a coupe.

And actually, I kind of like the term "sedan'ish coupe."

Oh, I didn't mean literally worried. I just meant know that I realize it's a coupe, because BMW says so.

That's why I didn't start the poll. I wasn't sure how to qualify it. I guess I would have done something like the following, which could have changed the results a little:

We know BMW classifies the E82 as a coupe, but do you think the E82 technically qualifies as more of a coupe or a sports sedan?

I dunno man, they made it so I guess they get to call it what they want. Like I said, feel free to call it whatever you want.

My apologies to Mack. I was to lazy to go back and verify. And it is probably inappropriate for me to vote anyway since mine does not fit either category. However, I will continue to enjoy it, much as you all will whether you have sedan or coupe.

Didn't want this thread to turn in to more debating (we already have a thread here for that), even though I contributed as well. Was just hoping it could be a poll to vote on, as it says in the OP. Guess you can't have a poll here without some discussion, though. lol

Oh man, on this relatively quiet forum that features a car that's been out of production for 6+ years, I think we need more threads like this that get into the minutiae of this unique and fantastic vehicle.

What I'm trying to say is, that's what your thread is for. We don't need 2 threads for exactly the same thing. This one was supposed to be for a poll. Now please, let's not have a debate about it.

And it seems it may be a sedan in coupe's clothing after all...

If you want to search for articles that call it a coupe, I'm sure there are plenty.

Here's an article that calls it a coupe 20 times:

https://www.bmwblog.com/2007/06/28/b...-press-photos/

Quote:
BMW will introduce a modern and authentic performance coupe that draws inspiration from its iconic 2002 models of some 40 years ago.
Your article also says "but the U.S. will see only the coupe body style..."

It is just a word, and it won't change what we drive, no matter what we call it.

I still like "sedan'ish coupe."

Yeah. That’s kind of the confusing thing with this poll that I was getting at earlier. We all know the E82 is a coupe, because BMW officially calls it a coupe. The question is, should BMW have called the E82 a sport sedan instead? So, my real vote would have been, yes, it’s a coupe, but, yes, BMW probably should have called it a sports sedan.

Classically, it's a sedan. Contemporarily, it's a coupe. Since it's a contemporary (mostly) car, it's a coupe.

Not really confusing at all. Actually pretty simple: coupe or sedan? Most people here seem to think it's a coupe. For me, the 2-door 4-door thing is the determining factor. If it was built in the '60s, '70s, or '80s BMW might have called it a sedan. But it wasn't. It's a modern day coupe with a generous greenhouse, which is one of the things I love about the car.

PS - I think the tall greenhouse comes from its hatchback origin.

Would we need an in-thread poll for this thread:
Poll, or Discussion?

I bet this one hits 4 pages too

next I'm gonna go searching the pre-Disney 101 Dalmations book printings, looking for a picture of Cruella DeVil's original Coupe De Ville with the cut top over the driver/mechanic front seats...

The E82 is a coupe. The question is should have BMW called the E82 a sedan?

FWIW, the 2-door/4-door thing still doesn't hold today. Some current 4-door coupes:
