well done Justin on what looks to be an awsome build.

i have recently purchased a 135i and have absolutely no idea what i am doing when it comes to street cars.
i have built some serious 4x4's but lost interest when they keep falling over.

i have just purchased AR dump pipes but am having trouble making a decision on the exhaust. where did you purchase your Berk system from??

Paul

Hey Paul,

congrats on the 135i,

I suspect in a few short years it will be THE car to "tune".

The ar downpipes are a great choice.

Just make sure you go catless and if you can afford the extra coin, opt for the Ceramic Coating.

The Berk system was sourced from european auto source, aka eas.

FYI,

it will drone somewhat when it is first installed.

BUT, you must give the system time to "carbon up".

I initially removed the axle back feeling it was a little over the top.

However after reinstalling it when the RB turbos went on, I must confess I was a bit premature, as any rasp has all but disappeared and now there is considerably less drone.

The combination of ar design catless pipes and Berk Technology Full street performance exhaust, is nothing short of intoxicating.

I have a few friends with a somewhat refined ear for exhaust notes and the general consensus is, that it sounds Fucking A on both partial and full throttle.

Hey Kenny, can you remember what boost you were running with the 291kw dyno run without race gas? Happen to have a log at all?

HOLY SHIT!

If your car didn't have the advan sticker on it. It would be the biggest sleeper on the street. I was expecting with all the things you have done that your car would look different but to my surprise it still 'looks' pretty much stock.

JD75.. this is for you.. anyone would be saying the same thing if you did this..

Hey Paul,

apologies for the very tardy reply.

By law it is a big no no to run a full catless exhaust, as can you say bye bye to your car passing an emissions test.

However you are driving a BMW 135i, not a R32 GTR "nugget" , sorry Pete.

As such you will be flying very low on the radar of the Pol' ice.

Also the substantial gains in horsepower and torque, come largely from the deletion of the catalytic convertor and not so much from the increased pipe diameter and improved flow characteristics of the excellent ar design downpipes.

Looking at the OE downpipes, I suspect the pipe design itself is not terribly bad.

The cat's are what inhibit even better turbo spool and rob power development.

In short, go catless, you will not regret it.

Cheers,

JD.

Hey mate,

as adrian pointed out you are posting in the wrong thread.

However IIRC Kenny has never run more than 17 psi with race gas, I suspect on pump fuel whilst spraying Meth', it would have been closer to 16 psi than that of 17.

Haha, nice vid.

thank you very much for the kudos, cheers mate.

I know it's naughty to do so,

but it would be very cool to professionaly video some 60-130 runs, against a few high priced exotics.

I wonder what kind of coin you would have to drop on a showroom floor car, that makes 400kW at the crank, is SUPER streetable and weighs less than 1,550kg?

I suspect a LOT!

However to give credit where credt is due, I don't think the car would run as strongly without the presence of the "Advan Motorsport" sticker.

By that I mean I cannot speak highly enough, of the expertise and professionalism Peter and the boys at Advan Performance continue to bring to the "build".

Nothing is too difficult for these guys and Peter's engineering knowledge and extensive motorsport experience is most impressive, to say very the least.

Peter is hoping to bring as few N54 specific products to the market place in the near future, as a result of the ongoing R & D he has put into my car.

More details to follow shortly, regarding the above.

There are some videos on youtube of the 135i vs lambo etc. And they pulled on the lambo. So I am not sure what yours would do to one lol. I for one would definitely like to see some footage You can always have it professionally edit out your number plate freelancer.com and a 100$ budget for a young kid.

I actually mentioned your car to someone yesterday lol. I 'drove' against an m3 and whiped him. And after he told me about how the 135s were monsters and how there was a the 1m. I said there was some guy in sydney who had a 500hp 135i lol.

Fyi he had a tuned m3, the older model.

Anybody got some friends with exotics? This could be a nice match up. One of those epic vids on youtube that get a 1million views.

You can run 60-130 at WSID no problem and its in a controlled environment. There's general agreement that a 2 or 3% grade variance is allowed for a 60-130 run from memory.

Hey Mate,

are you referring to LostMarine's 335i runs against a Lambo' Gallardo?

Those vids are extremely well shot, IIRC the Lambo owner shoots HD footage professionally.

Unfortunately an E46 M3 or for that matter an E92 M3, is no match for a properly sorted 135i, N54 represent!

Ummm, not to nit pick but I suspect the little 1'er is producing the best part of 550 hp at the crank, not 500.

Hmmm, I believe "Benny the Kid" has at his disposal what I would consider an exotic and it will have upgraded snails soon too.

haha yeah 550! .. And yes that is the one I am talking about.. There are many vids that are nicely done in HD with under rated cars vs supercars.. You should definitely do it..

Robert's mum video in his TT lambo took off. Although that appealed to everyone, this would still appeal to alot.

Hey Gents,

so here a few pics of the ACT "Street" clutch that I was running, unfortunately it has seen better days.

For those that are curious about BMW's OE dual mass flywheel, here is a closer look at that too.

Though please don't get too attached to it, as Peter of Advan Performance in conjunction with Ross Balancers have fabricated a proper upgrade.

To be honest I have been a little reluctant to ditch the OE flywheel and replace it with an aluminium lightweight single mass flywheel.

Not to mention there a very few options available for the 135i.

As an example the billet aluminium lightweight flywheel offered by Clutch Masters, is not suitable for the 1'er only the 3 Series N54.

However there have been reported failures of the dual mass flywheel from some the boys in the US, based on those facts and Pete's racing knowledge I was convinced to toss the OE unit.

What's more Advan's flywheel upgrade "ain't no" soft aluminium, it's chromoly steel.

Component details and pics to follow shortly.

Hey mate,

yep, that is a cool vid.

I have seen the TT Lambo' vid you mention too.

Certainly a different style, but equally entertaining.

FYI,

"Benny the kid" is 1q2w3e4r and he rolls with a twin turbo 911.

Though I strongly suspect Benny would be a "closed road" 60-130 kind of guy.

Hey JD,

I just saw this. I'm happy to go for a run down at WSID one night/private day when Pete has fitted my clutch and the track is re-opened. I've got a Performance box as well (if you don't) we can use to time 60-130 across both cars.

Hey Gents,

I am very pleased to introduce to you all, the upgraded flywheel that Peter has been working on.

It is a direct replacement for the BMW OE 135i N54 dual mass flywheel.

It has been machined by Rosco of Ross Balancers, to Peter's specifications.

It is a single mass flywheel made entirely of chromoly steel, it is also nitrided.

The OE starter ring gear has been refitted using the same method employed by BMW, that being a heating and shrinking/press fitment process.

The OE dual mass flywheel weighs in at 12.5 kg, where as the Advan Performance flywheel is 10.0 kg in weight.

Pete could have further reduced the weight of the steel flywheel, however with decreased weight comes a loss of potential inertia.

That is cool for the track, but not entirely desirable for a daily driven street application.

The flywheel is now available from Advan Performance on an exchange basis of $995.00 inclusive of GST.

Here are a few pics for you guys.

Could you elaborate a bit on your driving experience with the new flywheel? In particular, whether there is any chatter due to the fact that it's not a dual mass flywheel any more?

And would Advan also accept orders from outside Australia?
