135i Drift? I know open OEM dif not ideal..but..
My local track has an open Drift Session one at a time and on an infield so no walls to hit or anything, I was thinking of going for only $35 5pm-10pm why not..I do know LSD is ideal to carry long drifts, anyone play around w/ drifting the stock 135i? I have only done 3 Autocross events so far in it, so def be something new to me to see how it does
I def want an LSD and Cobb AP for next mods, 1 tire fire is no fun I can't imagine w/ a tune how much more it lights up the tire.. Any input appreciated, this isn't even a competition, it is just for fun to get people out and spark interest so most are just street cars not like full on Drift event w/ race cars. I have learned one thing, 50psi in the rear sure loosens things up for sideways action !! Thanks!

I have a limited slip diff, but I've watched a friend hang the back end out pretty dramatically around a skid pad with stock diff. So it definitely can be done.

i can get the back end out at autocross, but i need to force it out there and it's not always smooth or predictable
you could make it work with an open diff, but it wouldn't be nearly as good/cool/fun/easy/safe as with an LSD. save up and get the right tool for the job. or just start selling coke

Its really jerky. Ive done it in long sweepers at autox also. Its constantly trying to straighten out but once you learn the rhythm youll be able to nail the drift

Yeah, it is quite jerky, especially on sticky tires. The short wheelbase doesn't help either, it makes it a little unpredictable. It seems to be easier on a 3-series

I thought the Ediff was always on even if you turn everything off...

Yeah supposedly the DSC software was updated in March of 2008 to simulate the mechanical LSD when the DSC/DTC are switched completely off.

It would unless you adjust the software, I think...but then again with a mechanical LSD the conditions might not ever be met to engage the eLSD so it might be a moot point.

I have a Wavetrac. My understanding is that it generally prevents wheel spin, which prevents the e-diff from actuating. The best I can say is that with DSC off on track or on a wet skidpad, I never see any DSC lights flashing on my dashboard and never feel any rear wheel braking. But I'm far from an expert driver, so it might be doing something without me noticing.
