LOL @ "old school". Both are fantastic tires and behave extremely similarly. The AD-08s have more choices for size though (specifically 285s), but they're a lot more expensive, for hardly any (if any at all) performance gains.

Those guys run tires based on who they get sponsored by (taking into account their top tires of choice, and how much support they are getting from their sponsor). The Berk 135i is running Star Specs, as they are sponsored by Dunlop.

I use the same tires mounted on stock wheels and I can not stress how awesome a difference it was. They fit beautifully across my back seat and are killer on the track. I've actually carried 8 wheels/tires in my car at one time. Trust me, they can fit.

If you want to go 235 up front you will need to get A6's, as the V710's only come on 245 or 285. I bought 245's all around and I spend a little cash and remount the tires halfway and at the end of the season. They still have plenty of tread left after 60-ish auto-x runs.

You might need a slim spacer (I use a 5mm spacer to keep the tires off strut,) but you might not.

Hey, what size tires are you running, and what width wheels? ( I assume you are using 4 "front" M3 wheels). I'd like to do a non-staggered setup as well, so I can rotate the tires for longevity.

I was able to fit 255's all the way around mine... I have Breyton GTS-R wheels with Star Specs...

I will warn you tho, there is some pretty good front fender rolling that needs to be completed to make them fit and you would have to run around -2.9 degrees of camber in the front (I use Vorslag camber plates). There are some pics of my car in the tire fitment thread...I can find it if you would like.

Yeah, not looking to get into fender rolling or anything crazy. I just want a way to run 235's or 245's all around on a 17" wheel.

Dunlop Direzza Z1's 225 front, 255 rear on stock 264's. No fitment issues, can't comment on the dry performance just yet because it is still too cold in NY.

Funny you mentioned it, I was just on tire rack ordering the same setup with the exception of 235 for the front.
How long you've had dunlops for and how you like it??

Anybody have any rubbing issues with 235s up front on stock (264) wheels?

Also, the price difference on Tire-Rack between the Starspecs and the AD08s comes to less than $200. Which would you guys use?

Any opinions on how the wear characteristics are for both tires during regular driving?

Question What would you get?

I have reviewed all the write ups on 1addicts.com and now need to make a decision on what tire/wheel set up I will buy for track use only!

I have a 2011 135i with MSport package and I am keeping wheels and tires that car came with for street driving and looking for a track only set up. My inclination as at this time I have “stock suspension” and no immediate intention to change that is to go for the following track set up:

Breyton Race GTS (Bright Silver Paint) staggered set up to match current street set up so suspension settings can remain the same as street set up. Tires choice is where I am having a hard time:

• Toyo R888 seems to be the best combination of track and streetable (as I need to drive 30-150 miles each way to tracks in my area)

• I am not comfortable with Hoosiers, Kuhmo 710’s or Hankook Z214 as they have almost no tread and appear to be best for dry only conditions) and my track driving skills are not so aggressive as to need the max grip tire in the world

• Both Dunlop Direzza F1 and Advan AD08’s both appear to be leaning more towards street use with less track capabilities.

Help is needed to be sure I am not making a bad decision here…………….??

Any reason you can not carry your track wheels in the back of the car and change them at the track? The difference between Kumhos/Hoosiers and street tires is incredible, and you don't have to be an ace driver to take advantage of the increased grip.

my friend who put hoosiers on his car said they gave very little feedback on when they are going to "slip" which bothers me..............has that been your experience?

Not wanting to change wheels, and wanting fairly sticky tires that are pretty progressive... I'd say your initial thoughts of the 888's are a good way to go. HoHos and Kumhos are very tenacious, but not progressive when they want to let go. If you are a novice, you will likely not get to push them that hard, but you never know.

I have seen novices blister thru a set of Hoosiers after a few days of mis-driving at an HPDE event. Not sure of your past driving history, but the 888's will last a lot longer, even if you abuse them.

Thanks Larry N.....have about 20 track days total in various cars (M3, Audi RS4 and Ferrari 360), but I only drive at about 70-80% of the limit, I am there to have fun........not win fastest lap time.........I think the R888 is the way to go for me........I also read in June 2010 Car & Driver Track Tire Test that R888 got 9/10 rating vs. a racing slick at 10/10, so if I can get 90% of a slicks performance with only my driving limit I am

Makes sense; go for it. 888s are still great tires.

So I'm finally getting a second set and have decided on the Yoko Advan AD08s.

My only questions is this: will the 235/40/18 rub in the front on stock rims?

Anybody?
