That color is amazing. Just amazing. I love how the wheels match, too.

And replacement tires are more affordable in 17s.

I just checked locally, the 255/40/17s are priced the same as the 235/40/18s
At least from the same shop. When the time comes, i will start asking more detailed questions, tracks are closing this month and i will be busy moving anyways. So only small things like M3 arms, RSFBs, sway bars and LSD will be done this year. Lets see if i can get some seats and wheels/tires by March 2019, fingers crossed. |

This isn't necessarily true. I just changed to 18s and did so because the tire selection in 235 was better in terms of variety of compounds and the prices for 18s were either equivalent or cheaper than the prices for 17s. Depends on what size you're looking at.

It's the same (at least my MFactory unit, built at home with a 325i diff) price as a mid-range set of coilovers or a nice shock/spring combo.
But I really think it made the biggest difference in the way my car feels; it feels much more raw and mechanical, but in a playful, fun way. It was at the expense of some refinement, though... On a separate note, I found another thing gravel lots are good for; headlight adjusting, and more sideways motion testing and dust cloud generation.

I know right?
All the parts i am doing this winter are hidden, no one will be able to tell what has been changed or done...hence the term "small things" When it comes to wheels, tires, seats and brakes...those are "big things". Already found an official Quaife importer in Germany, offered me a good price including installation for the LSD. |

Been leaking power steering for the past couple weeks. Finally got time to check it out.
Started at noon. I jacked the car up and was able to locate the leak(failed/missing crush washer in photo) dropped the car back down, drove to the local BMW dealership and picked up some new washers for $4 and headed home. I Ate lunch. Jacked the car back up, got everything undone. Replaced the washers and dropped the car. Topped off/refilled the reservoir and ran in through the cycle and finished around 5pm. Pretty amazing when you can locate a leak, get parts and fix it all in one day without any problems at all. |

I've brought home a 3 metre (~10ft) playground slide, a 20" (wheel size) childrens bike, and a 55" TV in the back of mine. [edit: not at the same time] I never get over the "o... kay..." look you get from people when you walk up to your car holding something that size and begin to load it into the back. Drained and filled the transmission with fresh MTL. It is simply amazing the difference that ~2.0L of fluid can make to the driving experience. It's so snick-snicky slick now!
I did find a possible source for an odd rattling noise at idle, the power steering pump. I was probing around with a stethoscope, looking for a rattle that sounded right, couldn't find anything, until I listened to the PS pump. Nothing else on the engine was even close, so I guess I'll be tightening that down and making sure nothing is damaged... It was really cool listening to the injectors open and close.

What were your idle issues? My N51 has 80k miles on it now and I'm wondering if my idle problems might be related to the DISA system rather than the headers. Weird that it fully opens and closes on its own like that. I figured a motor failure would have the valves stay open or closed and not move at all.

Found a snapped power steering pump bolt, and also punctured the coolant overflow hose in the process of finding that.

I also got the 2AAC code a few times, prompting me to check. You can see how lethargic the small DISA is compared to the large one. Imagine you're ripping thru the RPMs, the DME tells the DISA to open and that happens - barely anything.
