Oil splatters on charge pipe and alternator..
Hi 1-series family,
So yesterday I started up the car and noticed a slight squealing noise coming from the engine. I pop open the hood, and see some oil splatters on the charge pipe and (i think) the alternator. See pics, circled in orange.. I wiped off the oil, and drove to work (no hard driving at all). No new oil splatters when reinspecting at end of day.. Two questions: 1) Do you know where the oil could be coming from, and why? 2) Regarding the squealing, could this be caused by oil hitting the belts just beside the charge pipe there, or do you suggest I change the belts and tensioner pulley? Thanks in advance. |

There have been numerous incidents of oil leaking on the belt causing it to come off, shred, and get sucked into the front main seal causing major damage. So I would definitely give it some proper attention.

Thanks guys.
I'm getting quotes now to replace the oil cooler gasket, oil filter housing gasket, and the belt pictured above (accessory belt?). Do you recommend I also have the tensioner assembly replaced (or just the accessory belt)? similar to this kit: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assemble...1287582946kt2/ Am not sure how to assess if it's a tensioner pulley issue.. i definitely see some oil on the belt (from oil filter / oil cooler housing gasket issue) which I believe is causing the squeaking |
