Mercedes' new CLC coupe: "a natural rival for BMW’s new 1-Series coupe"

I say it's ugly. Whaddaya reckon?

Mercedes-Benz has mixed old and new C-Classes to create a sub-$50,000 coupe aimed at younger customers.

The range-topping Mercedes CLC 350 model generates 200kW (272hp) from its 3.5-litre V6 engine. It sprints from zero to 100km/h in just 6.3 seconds, helped by 350Nm hitting the rear wheels @ 2400rpm. It has a maximum speed of 250km/h and consumes petrol at a rate of 9.7L/100km on the combined cycle.

In total there will be six models in the range:
CLC 200 CDI (90kW)
CLC 220 CDI (110kW)
CLC 180 Kompressor (105kW)
CLC 200 Kompressor (135kW)
CLC 230 (150kW)
CLC 350 (200kW)

Face it - there is no natural competitor to the 135i. The 135i is the White Pointer of the compact coupe world!

Pretty ugly ... but the black one doesn't look too bad if you look at it front on, covering up the hatchback end, closing one eye and squinting

anyway, i doubt it'll have the driving dynamics of a 1'er

I think the CLC350 may give the 125i a run for its money, but it isn't going to touch the 135i. But price wise, the 125i is priced more like the CLC200! How much is the CLC350? If they did a CLC63 (or even just a CLC55) then I may have some interest.

The Merc just doesn't seem to have the intensity of the 135i. Even in Black it just looks like an expensive hatch.

Hey, amk2912 I like the new photo above, Sedona is hot. You were right, the color is fabulous. Reckon the guys at Kingsway BMW should get rid of their Mercury Vapor lights as Sedona looked almost brown on the day we visited a couple of months ago.

On the outside from the B-pillar forward is a win in my opinion...but from there back....EPIC FAIL.
Usually Mercedes is top-notch with their interiors...but what is with the weird "shoulders" on the seats??? Strange...

Bwahaha! Funny pic Cozza. Btw I was at Mercedes today to top up the oil on my C63 (burned up the oil in 2100km of pretty gentle driving! Tech reckons it's normal for this engine during run in). I saw and sat in the CLC. I immediately thought that it was a car I would buy for my daughter (if I had one) for her 21st birthday. It's just that sort of car.

I just went to the MB website. The only model available here is the CLC200. So much for it being our competitor lol.

Yeah, girl's car indeed.

I like the black roof on the white though (not that I like the car though!)... I really wanna paint mine black.

Yep..its all about the light. Sedona Red looks almost brown in the AutoClassic showroom but once you bathe the car in warm incandescant or halogen it looks gorgeous!
