128 to 130
So, in keeping with the original tradition of the BMW badge number meaning chassis/engine displacement, was thinking about upgrading the 128 badge to a 130 badge
Thoughts? Hey, at least I'm not adding a M badge... |

I have the 130i tune and intake manifold, but even before that ive been debadged. I wouldn't do the 130, even if you have the brake kit, tune, intake manifold and such, its still not the same

It's been done. I don't see an issue with it, but that said I'd recommend debadging and getting a 130i personalized plate.

Have you done any mods to the car to make it comparable to the 130i?

I have a 130i badge.
I did it to provoke conversation and create questions from knowledgeable or curious enthusiasts. The car is beyond stock 130i performance, and the driving experience is incredible.

How bout if you put a 116 badge on a 135 to troll potential street racers into thinking your car is a 116?

Why would I need any mods on the car? It's a 3.0l motor, not a 2.8 as the badge implies. Adding a 130 badge would only state what the car actually is... |

The 125 and 128 are 3.0l. The nomenclature talking about engine displacement is long gone. It's, for almost two decades now, been about output and product positioning in the lineup. If you rebadge your car to call it something it's not, why not put an M6 badge on it? That's what I meant on my first post. |

Do what you want. To me its like the VW guys who put the bora badge on their Jetta's, or nissan guys putting fairlady on their Z's. I have a 128 and have also considered a 130 badge just to provoke conversations at meet and greets.

The best and simplest case I've seen against adding/changing car badges is this --
People that don't know, don't care and don't notice. People that do know will think you are a tool. The car is whatever it left the factory with. Even if you add everything to 'make it' X, that original sticker says Y. The idea of 'do what you want its your car' is fine and understandable, but you have to ask - Why are you doing it? To make people think you have a more expensive car? Faster car? Cooler car? The response to all of those is, that is sad and petty. If anything de-badge it, that gets a cooler/cleaner look and is not embarrassing when brought up in conversation. |

I don't think you offended anyone, it just doesn't really make sense to put the badge of a "better" car that's a hatch back on yours. more just educational discussion than offensiveness.
