Methanol Injection as Carbon Cleaning?

Hi all,
I have an n54 135i currently on an mhd stage 1 tune. I know these cars have issues with carbon build up and I'm reading that methanol injection can help with this. My question is, would adding a cheap universal meth kit help clean my valves and as a bonus give me a slight performance boost on the same tune all without any added risk? My friend says if I didn't change the tune there would be no risk since if meth stopped flowing it would be on the same tune it is now. Would I even be able to notice any performance gains without a more aggressive tune? My thought is basically I could spend $400 now on meth and get a little performance boost or spend $400 later on carbon cleaning. What do you guys recommend?
Thanks in advance!

It might slow it down if you get your valves clean, but it won't clean off existing crud nor will it completely prevent it. If you search enough you'll find peoples results on this on E90 post and such.

I can tell you there is plenty of performance gains to be had from the methanol injection and it will clean the valves. Will it clean them squeaky clean, probably not. I know I checked mine around 50K original miles and they weren't bad at all, likely cause of the spray. I should mention I also have an Oil Catch Can which helps even further.

Only thing that will actually help much is plugging the head ports and running your PCV completely external.

Meth doesn't spray 24/7 and the standard catch can almost everyone uses is only separating oil vapor during high load.

Thank you all for the responses. Even just slowing the development of carbon on the valves would be a big plus. If I wanted to get the most out of meth I assume adding jb4 would be the easiest way to go about it. Do you know if mhd with jb4 still allows jb4 to control methanol injection?

I have a 2011 N55 running MHD and currently a 50/50 A/W blend through an AEM Kit. The safety wire is attached to a custom T harness on the wastegate control valve. If I run out of juice the level sensor in the tank trips the safety wire and triggers the wastegate to fully open (limp mode).

I agree with others, it's not spraying all the time so the best thing you can do is media blast and then run meth.

Are you running a more aggressive mhd map because you have meth? How are the gains you're experiencing?

I have a FBO PS2 installed and I am going through the logging/tuning process with Justin @Twisted.
I am considering running pure M1. With the base line PS2 map I didn't notice much difference with the 50/50 blend on or off. I know you're looking for faster answers, but I am a couple months away from being able to drive my car again.

My logs are here and mention tune, intake (was experiencing couplers collapsing), meth on/off in the notes.

Thanks so much for all the info. I'll look at your logs when I have a sec tonight. Right now it sounds like my best bet is to spend my money on other modifications until I'm ready to get a pro tune then go for meth. Good luck with your build!

Why don't you do port injection fuel instead? I'd imagine petrol is a better solvent than meth. I run pi through my intake manifold and never need to clean my valves.
