Michelin Pilot Super Sport!!

I got an oil change yesterday at the dealership and they said I need to replace 2 of my rear tires for 820$ on the stock runflat tires which is super expensive for me.

I immediately hop on tirerack.com and order the Michelin non-runflat that I always wanted to get on the 135is for awhile now.

It was very hard to choose between the AS3 and SS but I went ahead with the SS since it have more stars? LOL

Anyway it out for delivery today already!!

Thanks TIRERACK FOR getting this out in less than 48 hours between ordering and delivery!! Can't wait to ride this 135is on a non-runflat!

Are you replacing the fronts too? I learned the hard way that you want to replace all 4 when switching from the runflats.

Just FYI. When in installed my winter wheels in November, I found that my rear PSSs needed to be replaced at only 8600 miles. Fronts look great and have approximately 70% tread remaining. The car has never seen a track, or been autocrossed, never used the launch control, and DTC is never disabled. Michelin warranty won't cover the replacement rear tires because the wear patter is uneven.

So enjoy the car but we ready and able to replace the rears before 15K miles!

I would have you alignment checked. My PSS have seen 8k miles, many hard launches, 6 autox events (and I drive hard), and I never drive with DSC on. The rears easily have 60% life left. Not even close to the wear bars.

My rear PSS are at 20,000 and are getting close to needing replaced. Totally depends on how you drive. Below 40 degrees they loose a lot of grip so I am getting a set of Apex wheels to run PSS in the warm months and mount A/S3 on the stock wheels for the cold months.

My PSS are at the 4/32 line with 12k on them currently. Should get 16k out of them I'm hoping.

I've seen you drive. I've tried following you. Flames shot from the rear tires.

It doesn't mater what tires you have... our cars will burn thru the rears in 8K to 18K. That's the price we pay for owning a small powerful rocket.

PSS's are the way to go. They are such a great tire!

Apparently it's not the alignment, it's the factory camber settings coupled with how I drive. Alignment was done by the dealer at 2K when the PSSs were installed, again at 10K when the PS was installed, then again at 13K when the PSSs were removed and needed to be replaced.

Have you looked at the wear bars on the inside shoulder of the rears? I'll post a photo of mine later.

EDIT: photo attached of rear PSS at 8.6K miles.

Just put a set of PSS on my car last weekend. Much better than the Run Flat tires so far. They're very quiet too. I also have them on my E90 and I've put almost 40k miles on them so I agree its how you drive which dictates their lifespan!

Only because I didn't want to get rear-ended by the AARP member behind me driving a car manufactured with crappy brakes...

Get the car aligned NOT at dealer. Factory alignment still sucks and getting it realigned to those same settings won't improve tire wear.

Yes. And tell the shop you are more concerned with tire wear than handling.

Interesting. I will need to look around for a better solution. In the spirit of full disclosure: TurnInConcepts http://turninconcepts.com (the shop that installed my BMW Performance Suspension) did the alignment at 5K miles, and they did bias the settings towards handling rather than tire wear. However, when checked by the dealer at 8.5K, they found it was still well within factory specs, so it's not as if they got carried away.

Factory "specs" gives a really wide range of what's considered acceptable. For better tire wear, I would go hair toe-in for the back, with -1.0 to -1.5 camber. Front, I would go -0.5 to -1.0 camber and 0 toe. You can up the negative camber up front even though it might lead to premature wear since they'll still outlast the rears and you plan to replace all 4 at once. If you're ok with swapping only 2 at a time and want most tire longevity stick with the lower camber settings.

After owning my 135i for over 7 years, I finally ditched the run flats... Best decision I ever made! The Michelin pilot super sports beat the OEM Dunlops I had in every aspect! The Michelin pilot super sports are definitely quieter, but not as much as I expected from other people's posts. Where they really shine to me though is how soft and smooth the ride is, and how well the weight seems to transfer in and out of turns. I run over imperfections in the road now that I used to hear and feel, but can only hear now. The car no longer feels floaty when weight transfer happens. The tires are so sticky, but definitely pick up and throw around every little bit of gravel, lol. I recommend the switch for those who haven't yet! Also, I got AAA since I have no spare. Even after buying my membership, I still saved $200 compared to the Dunlops and the ride is so much better. You can take more advantage of the power your car has with these, and the tires will last longer!

I had the AS3s on my MINI and instantly wished I had gone with the SS. Too much flex and general lack of instant responsiveness compared with true summer tires. Probably go with PSS next spring g when it's time for tires.

I was able to squeeze 30K miles out of the front Bridgestone RFTs and 28K out of the rears.
