search or read much? 1M won't be based of N54. It will be based off N55..

It shouldn't matter though, as tweaking HP out of the N54 is no big deal.

I will not buy unless 360 plus. The other m stuff is great but I can get that plus more power in other cars if it's under 350 hp.

I vote 370hp. 450 with chip, piggy, tune whatever. Otherwise... I'll just wait for the new 450 tti6 m3. Or get a gtr.

370 stock, 450 with chip sounds really tasty!!!
what I really want to know if how BMW will differentiate next gen M3 engine with this engine. They are supposedly shared... Will 1M owners be able to "upgrade" to M3 levels?

BMW should just shave two cylinders off the S54 and then send it to HPF. Voila!! 500hp/500tq and 50lbs less.

Time goes by fast..when this current M3 was released , it was adequate power,,..but now?? not so...new 1M has to be as fast or quicker than the current M3....if not, I don't see strong sales at all.....seeing that you can buy a 2008/2009 M3 for less than a new 1M....capeesh??? It will have upwards of 370 hp, and it will out perform the current M3... BMW is well aware of the majority of us having them tunes and all... 320 /340 hp no Thank you.

I think you might be right there. On paper, I would say it will be 0.1 second off M3 0-100 or 0-60 pace, and it will have a lower hp than the M3.

However, I would say it will actually be quicker than the current M3 until the M3 gets its power boost.

Remember many countries including Germany uses SI. Which means extra 50kw = 275kw = 370hp.

Weight I would say would be similar because of the wheels and LSD, but it will have better distribution.

Also it will be based on the N55, both South and I believe that there would be something a bit special than just a straight twin turbo to make it worthy of a) an M, and to be the basis for the next M3.

Here's the challenge. All REAL ///M cars have individual TB's. Are they going to add ITB's to the N55 and make is an S55TT?

I love ITB's, but I doubt the 1M will have them. The new turbocharged M cars don't have them (X5M and X6M), right?

I don't think ITB's make for any stellar gains, whether it's power or response, on an FI engine.

An N55 with ~350hp would only be marginally slower than an M3, I expect the M3 to receive the twin turbo V8 then whenever it gets a makeover

Not so, according to our resident BMW insider SCOTT, who has said the engine for the E82 M1 will be the basis for the next generation M3. So it will be a TT I6.

The next generation M1 will have a 4 cylinder power plant....
