March '08 Deposits...
Hi all, new "potential" 1-series owner here - long story short: test drove the A4 and the VW GTI 2.0T yesterday (WOW), loved feel/tossability/accel of the GTI, thought I could get a similar experience with better looks and more refinement with 128i/135i coupe.
So... it's going to be hard enough to wait until March 08, I want it AS SOON AS its avail. here - any dealerships in your area taking deposits/pre-orders? Thanks |

i've sent emails to my local dealers asking ... one refuses to talk via email so i'll probably stop by later in the week. haven't heard back from the other.
i'm really surprised there hasn't been more enthusiasm for this car. i mean compared to the M3 forums it's kinda dead. for me, this car is just perfect. very excited! |

Dealers are taking deposits to get on the waiting list. The amount varies from one BMW Center to another. Usually with a min of $500 to a max of $1500. Some Centers are refundable deposits, while others are not. Obviously do not conduct business with the ones that are not refundable. I have heard of one Center that is refundable until the car hit status 150 (Production Started).

One specifically said they are expecting 3-series-like allocation #'s for the 1's so there should be no shortage (waiting list not necessary). Interesting note: Two dealerships told me they expect the 128i to start at $26k while the third just said "in the 20's" Leads me to conclude that demand varies wildly based on which region you're in... |

You're Welcome!
I agree so long as it is refundable. For BMW Centers not willing to take a deposit and simply take you name and number, I would request to leave a refundable deposit of $500, especially if this is the Center you are wanting to purchase from. Otherwise you will probably be SOL by April 2008. |

I would also make sure its refundable. I use to work at a dealer and every time a new car was launched, the first few buyers lost the most money. I guess thats the price to say "I got it first!!". I plan to wait a year or so after launch to see how the vehicle pans out. Still a fairly certain buyer though!

I went to the BMW dealership my mom got her 528i at years ago. They aren't taking deposits on the car yet. They said they will be taking them some time in October.

Woot! Apparently Fields BMW in Orlando IS taking deposits. My mom and dad went there to test a car for my mom. They mentioned the 1 series and how I was told they weren't taking pre-orders.
Now I'm 3rd on the list Not bad considering how late I got in the game. It was $1000 refundable deposit for anyone who may think of going to Fields. Also, the reason they told me they weren't taking deposits is because they were only putting peoples' names on a list, not taking money. I've heard some bad things about them but I've never had a problem with them (other than this mishap.)
