Wow ! ! A 335 HP version of the N54 ?? Thats a dissapointment. 335 HP is fine but this is an M car how can they stick the same engine from the previous model 135i ?? Im really glad I got my M3 and didnt wait around ... Maybe its too soon to overreact but im going to be honest , speaking for myself , thats a little bit of a let down.

Output of 335hp is speculation on the part of C&D. Scott has previously indicated the more likely output is 350-360hp. |

Specs were never released, C/D just guessed. Up until two days ago, they were positive it was a 350hp N/A I6 that was being developed specifically for this car. Scott says it's "not a chipped 135" motor, so I'll take him at his word.

It's pure speculation. The only thing we "know" about the engine is that it's not a chipped 135i motor, and that it's a turbocharged I6. Anything beyond that is speculation.

Again, going off the article is fraught with error. I would rather believe Scott before C&D.

Scott26 has said the engine is the S55, and hp is around 360 PS. The info is littered about in several threads, one can just them. |

Laziness I suspect. I'd doubt that everyone is driving through L.A. style rush hour traffic to justify the DCT. Sure, the DCT can shift faster and improve your times at the track, but I keep thinking of that R&T article comparing regular manuals with dual clutch transmissions. The DCT's in both their test cars, an Evo X and Porsche Cayman, ended up overheating during the tests.

Don't think BMW didn't stage manage this whole little event. While they didn't write the article they are hardly going to let a major publication get the facts completely wrong about a new product they just demonstrated. How would that help BMW?
Can anyone read the sidewall on that tire closeup? I can see ... 35 x R19, but I can't read the width.

Someone should seriously create a FACTS post about the 1 Series M Coupe and sticky it. Only info in that post is what has been proven by photos, quotes from BMW, and info from Scott.
Scott all but confirmed DCT in the 1M and people still believe what C&D writes.

Fronts: 245/35ZR19 93Y Rears: XXX/35ZR19 ? I think the rears might be 285's... I can only make out that the size ends in a five, could be x45 as well!?!? Does that make any sense? Edit; Btw I am not sure of the aspect ratio either for the rear. Could be 35zr19's or 55 ??? Last edited by Dackelone; 07-12-2010 at 02:30 AM.. |

Doesn't the 135i already understeers. With added width to the back tires and without significant power upgrade, I'd imagine the handling remain understeer biased.

It is "not a chipped 135i" according to Scott. I have driven BMWs normal cars, and then their M cars, always dramatically better. I think your words "if" and "fail" won't apply when you drive this car. I have faith. Don't you?

Everyone is underestimating what this 1M will be. No M car has ever disappointed, they all deliver the goods in the performance department. I already think a tuned 135i engine would have been ideal for a 1M, all we were missing with the 135i were all the other M bits. This is what will make it a true M car.
