the one without the centre support is what is on the 1M from the factory.
installed it on my car does the job can't justify spending any more for anything else. |

no I'm in a e82. the mounting on top of the strut towers is reason enough to upgrade.
the mounting in the centre isn't that bad the two bars around where they bolt in are angled up so that as you tighten the bolt it preloads the bar. probably why the torque spec is 100Nm. To be honest I'm not sure how much benifit the m3 mounting in the centre provides. |

I just went out and took a look at mine. Shook 'em. The driver's side bar "clicked" a little. So I hand-tightened the bolt! I think I have that star driver at home - time to break out the torque wrench. Stock is a funky attachment point. Looks like my suspension upgrade is getting pricier...

Dinan Koni Yellows and Swift Springs. Car rides terrible but better than stock, steering is AWFUL!! I get bangning noise from the rear end and installer isn't sure why. Installer used Bilstein bumpstops because bump stops werent included with Dinan Koni struts. I've tuned rebound on the front struts, but don't know how on the rears. WHat should I do?

For what's it worth, Lemforder 335i front strut mount is $2 more than 135i front mount. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...60-31306775098
Btw, it looks like the 335 ones were used on the 135i for 2008, or at least a portion of it. |

Good luck! If I might ask - what tires, and size, are you running? And how stiff did you set the rebound? Finally, may not help, but Dinan front springs aren't nearly as stiff as the R-Specs. They may not be ideally valved. Although they're closer than the stock ones are. |

Wheels are stock 18 inch 5 spoke M3 front lower control arms M3 front tension arms M3 rear subframe bushings M3 front sway bar (no end links) Rebound on the front struts are highest setting. rears I dont know how to adjust them, there's two bolts on the top of the strut. when you put the white knob the strut it doesnt move. I think I'm going to call Dinan and see what they say. |

You've gotta remove the rear Koni shocks to adjust 'em. (TCK has an "external-adjust" version, but I don't believe Dinan ever did. The TC's are white.) If the fronts are full-stiff, it's likely the rears are, too.
Maybe you can turn 'em down when you take it apart to see what was assembled wrong... Guys here and elsewhere generally run the fronts at ~ 1/2 way between Soft and Stiff for the Swift springs. You may like the ride quite a bit better if you turn them down a notch. I hope so - because that's what I'm gonna do, and I'm going to run your same tires and wheels (fronts probably 225/40, but not a huge difference) and terrible ride is not on my list of desired attributes.

M3 bits including subframe bushings, Dinan Camber plates, Swift Springs, Koni Yellows and a few more odds and ends. I initially had the Konis set pretty soft, I think I did the equivalent of 40% front and rear. Didn't like the feel on the track at all. Set it for 75% front and rear and the car handles amazing on the track. It's pretty rough on the street though, although it eats up those corners. It's primarily a track type car. It drives to and from the track events, now and then on the weekends but that's it. Its obviously not my DD. I run Apex ARC 8s with Hancook RS3s, 235/255. Not a great steet tire, as they are loud and harsh, but on the track you can't beat them. Here's my video from my last track day.

Did you get a feel for them on the street at 40%? Impressions? And was that on DOT Race tires?

They were fine on the street. Just a bit stiffer then the BMW performance suspension, which I did have before the swift/Koni setup. Just try it out, I know it's a pain in the ass to adjust the rears, but you're personal taste may vary. The 40% setup was just to soft for the rack, and that's what it is used for. It sees very limited street driving, usually only to and from the track, so I can put up with any harshness. That was on Hancook RS3s, which are Extreme performance summer tires.

I backed all 4 dampers to full-soft, then spun the rears up 3/4 of a turn (38% from full soft), and the fronts 1.5 turns (60% from full soft) and dropped 'em off for install.
Sports, Swift Spec-R's, and PowerFlex Race Black RSFB inserts. I installed the E92 FSB last weekend myself, and love the improvement. Front end feels tight! Still on RFT's so I imagine the ride will be a little rough, but I'm taking her out to a driving clinic on Saturday so I want to have it set pretty close to final target. Figure I'll burn those suckers up a bit before getting MPSS. Will report back once I get a feel for the new setup. Adjusting the rebound on the rears was interesting. Gotta fully compress it. Then turn the rod. Mine didn't have a nipple for the Koni knob, but a 6mm or so internal hex. So borrowed an allen wrench from the shop. Instructions look like they're written for someone who's done it before.

I wonder if TCK revalving makes em stiffer at every setting. Hope so - the fronts will be challenging, though possible, to adjust after the fact. We'll see soon enough! |

I'm pretty sure I met you at the longest day driving school back in July? I've been thinking for a while now to get the koni yellows adjustable shocks. what all is involved with adjusting the rear shocks once installed?

I don't know about that - but you'll need to disconnect them such that you can FULLY compress the shock and get an allen wrench on the end. If the rod is even a tiny bit up it won't engage the adjustment controls inside the shock body.

Stock runflats with Spec-R's:
I set the rears 3/4 turn from soft, and the fronts 1.5 turns from full soft. Also recently added E92 M3 FSB and Race RSFB inserts (most of them, anyway.) And a decent alignment. Rear feels AWESOME. Front feels a little stiff. If I were going to keep RFT's I'd probably back off 1/4 to 1/2 turn. However, since I have a track event this weekend and will be getting Michelin PSS with 225/40 fronts in short order, I'm just going to leave it. Not harsh or rough by any means - just feels a little tighter than the rear. Response is great, and ride is so improved. A little better feel. It's interesting - texture and bumps come through the wheel to tell me what's going on, but - compared to stock - barely register in the body. On my way home, there are 3 off-camber mid-turn bumps that always used to upset the car: shimmy and bounce out back, lose my stomach just a bit, and step slightly out of line. Tonight, all 3 were caused just a little vertical motion. LOVE it!

Thanks Chris.
I do - LOVE the new setup. Just got the Michelins on Friday. Took it for a good spin Sunday evening. I needed to remove the rear spacers due to the wide shoulders of the PSS, but other than that all is great. I still may back off the front dampers a hair in the next couple weeks when I change spark plugs and cabin filter (and install JB Stage 1.) Not that it feels harsh or bad in any way, but the front still feels just a tad stiffer than the rear. Actually, it feels like the engineers at Michelin, Koni and Swift got together to figure out how to make the 1 feel like a proper BMW. Great setup for anyone on the fence. And Chris made it real easy.
