65k no problems in 4 years. Still runs like a dream. The 128i is a completely reliable car. I absolutely love it. I'm SO glad I didn't spring for a 135i.

I want the car to start and drive everytime I turn the key. No BS. The 128i has given this to me.

In my opinion, all cars will have there issue's in terms of reliability. It just so happens some cars are more reliable then others. The 128i is a perfectly reliable car OP. Had a 2012 128i with M-Sport package as a loaner car, it was a very fun little car.

2012 128 here bought new in January 2012. 8400 miles now and very very happy with the car. Just two very minor issues, 1. the squeaking/creaking cheaply made armrest and 2. Passenger window will sometimes, maybe once a month go halfway up then reverses back down. Both issues have been reported by other folks. But really its so minor I have;nt even mentioned it to dealer yet. Very Very reliable and just really fun to drive. I have no problems with the runflats, the ride is fine to me. Just make sure you get the sport package and xenons

OP's post is over a year old. Wonder if he got the car or not?

I have a 128i cabrio, and it has 15000 trouble free miles on it after two years. BMW services have been free (oil changes, etc) and will be for two more years or up to 50,000 miles. I love the car, it has been the best of all the BMWs I have owned.

Not sure I understand why people think BMWs are unreliable. If you change the oil once or twice a year, and do recommended services, many of choice one can do themselves with big discounts on parts from certain dealerships, the cars run a long time. They are SO much better than any Asian car in terms of handling, braking, crashing and overall driving feel. Sure a Honda Civic will get you from point a to point b with little or no maintenance, but who wants to drive it? It is not fun (and I am talking about a Mugen Honda, which is much closer in handling and price to a 128i). There is no substitute for a smooth inline six engine, a suspension made of high tech alloy vs stamped cheap steel, and an overall driving feel that is second to none.

The 128i never fails to be a smile to my face when I start it (BMW Performance exhaust!). And it is just doing very well right now, no issues.

My new car, the BMW's little sibling is a Porsche type 981 Boxster. Picking it up in a few days. It should be a blast and has lots of improvements over the prior models!

Contratulations on the Boxter! I've seen the reviews of the Boxster and they look really good. I've driven a 911 but never a Boxster or Cayman. A comparison would be appreciated when you get a little experience with it.

Mine is 21,000 miles and I had NO issue so far except for the door rubber seals that seem to leak (will have that fixed during my next oil change - I suspect Colorado sun to have something with it).
I see you are in Toronto, I had mine for a year when I was living in Chicago and had no problem to use it as a daily driver all year round. With the M-Sport pack you have SUMMER tires, not all season. Given the fact it is a RWD car, I would strongly advise to get a set of Winter tires (I have Dunlop Winter 3D - staggered as my original set and I love them). I agree with most comments on the RFT : ditch them when you have to change them. I am at the end of my rear tires (GoodYear NCT5 - hate them) and they have less than 10,000 miles, I plan to replace all four next spring by Continental.

I am a bit less convinced by the automatic gearbox, I love everything about my manual and each time I drove an Auto, I thought something was missing (don't get me wrong; I love a good auto tranny but the one in the 128i just does not makes me happy, it numbs a fantastic package).

Thanks!
I pay about $100/month for my 128i (2009) and my wife's Santa Fe Limited. They are about equal in premium.

It costs less to insure my 128 than it did my Mini. The 128 is more expensive to insure than my 2000 Z3 was.

I'm paying a little more than $80 a month for my insurance, thanks in part to the fact I have homeowners insurance with the same company.
