Painted M261 Rims

I'm not usually one for visual mods but I picked up some square M261 rims for my car and hate the brake dust issue so I painted them the closest color I could find which was graphite....

Thankfully I can now run 245/255 tires but they're more of a 255/265 equivalent as they're very wide. Stoked for my next track day with somewhat proper tires up front.

Looks great. Did you do it yourself or have them painted? Is there a color code and where did you get the paint? Been thinking about this myself.

I was ghetto and used duplicolor graphite rim spray paint, 600 grit sandpaper then 3 light coats but they need a clear coat at some point. I'm quite happy with the color for $30

How did you clean the baked on brake dust on the inside of the wheels?

I did, with orange citrus cleaner, then 220 on a DA and a crapload of hand sanding. Came out very nice.

Black on the back to hide the dust, but also painted to make it easier to clean.

LOTS of sanding on the front to smooth, then 4 coats of paint ach. Next clear in a week.

What paint product did you use for the face of the wheels? Looks like a two color/step application (silver and then some kind of metallic grey).

So you can paint them with the tires on? Just deflate first?

I have a plastidipped set that I want to peel off and paint because plastidipo looks terrible. Good summer project for me..

Two stage yes, one color, VHT Graphite, one clear. The clear has yet to go on as the color has to cure 7 days first.

No need to deflate them, just us 3X5 cards and tuck them in. Overlap so you can't see the tire and paint. Until the tire comes off you will not be able to tell they are a different color.
