What is the placement of the 2nd oil cooler? Do you think there will be a kit for this? (Brackets, oil lines etc.) What oil did you run - and do you think it makes any difference?

Also, where did you mount the second cooler? There isn't a heck of a lot of room under there. |

Like others, I am interested in specifics regarding the oil cooler since it wasn't mentioned on the Bimmerworld blog with all the other upgrades.
Now that OLOA is over what changes or improvements would you make to the car? I can't tell you how much I appreciate you guys forging into new territory with the 1. It gives the rest of us a baseline to work off of. |

My totally unsubstantiated guess is that in an attempt to protect the motor the temp gauge is programmed not to move off cold until the oil is already fully warmed. I did not notice and appreciable increase in the time it took for the gauge to read warm after the second cooler was installed. We put the second cooler behind the intercooler. BTW, the second cooler adds one qt of oil to the system. Alex |

You would have to ask James but my guess is that since the oil cooler was custom (and not ready for immediate sale) that he left it off the list. I do know that he is working on a kit. I plan to drive the car as raced in OLOA with the exception of the brakes. The full race floating rotors are simply too noisy for the street IMHO. The car is still at BW getting its picture taken for a couple of magazines. I am looking forward to getting it back. Terp1 did you go to school at the home of the 2002 NCAA champs? |

Coming home....
After living in the One 24/7 for 9 days with James and Vic I was thrilled to be home and more than happy to loan her to BimmerWorld for some magazine pictures. Well, after three weeks apart I get her back tomorrow and I can’t wait. While the One may never be a garage queen, I am looking forward to giving the car a long overdue waxing and detailing. I am praying, likely in vain, that the intervening weeks have dissipated the aroma of Gyro King, countless burritos and three large, often sweaty, guys.
Strange to own a car from new that now has almost 10K miles on the odometer (maybe another first for a One in North America?) and realize that it has spent a total of two days at my house. After thousands of miles I became used to the harshness of the full race suspension. However, the 1200lb race springs are history and I am curious to see how the car handles in “close” to stock form. What about the fancy brakes? I thought I read that the brake drying function had completely destroyed the rotors in a short period of time...

Alex, if the springs have been replaced let us know what the new spring rate is front and rear, please.

I thought that the AA processor worked very well. The 335i was running Dinan and they were not happy. Oil heating issues, limp mode etc etc. Also, with the Dinan software, you can never go back to stock, short of buying a new ECU.
As for spring rates we were running 1100lb rears and I think 800 front. These are WAY too stiff for street use(this coming from a guy that has put stiff springs in every BMW sedan he has owned). I would talk to James at BimmerWorld about a good street/track spring. Alex |

I don't think that's correct. There's been lots of folks who have had issues with their car, and the BMW Center reflashed the DME/ECU back to stock, overwriting the Dinan parameters. |
