Turning off ignition restarts board electronic

Hi everyone,

I have this weird thing going on at random, where the CIC and all onboard computer stuff including the instrument cluster just crashes/shuts down and then restarts after one second as if nothing happened.

It really only happens when I park the car and turn off the ignition by pushing the start/stop button once. Right when I press the button, it sometimes does that shutdown/restart without warning/reason. It happened maybe 2 or 3 times over the last 6 months, but this week it happened four times already, so I am getting concerned. I think it only happens when its warm outside >25°C or so, but I cant tell for sure, but maybe its a hint. After the restart, everything works fine again, same as before (even though I had to set the clock again one time).

Anyone else experienced this or has an idea what I should check? Error codes are clean.

Thanks alot!

How does the car start up, does it crank slowly? Have you had the battery tested?

^^This^^

All kinds of weird things can happen when the battery gets low in these cars.

Well, it starts up almost instantly to be honest.
Never had any problems with the battery so far, which is 6 years old now. Last winter I had it stand still for over a week (-5 to -10°C) and afterwards the car started instantly, as always.

How can I test it?

There are several videos on YouTube on how to test a car battery.

I charge my battery regularly using a CTEK charger to keep it fully charged all the time.

Garage List
Maybe a flaky connection? There's a cable in the engine bay that is known to corrode and break...I think it's the one that goes between the positive jump post and the starter and alternator. You can do some browsing here...

My'08 would reset electronics between starts. Absolutely no difference in start time from 1st day I had car to that point. Did that about four times, then I changed battery. No resets since.

Car systems apparently monitor stuff to make sure battery has power to start car. Totally different than what I was used to with older cars.

@esteban
yeah i have got a ctek charger too and had it connected for 24 hours before and while installing MHD, so the battery should be ok. Will keep it in mind though.

Its getting weird now
I always thought it was because of higher temperatures outside, but it seems it only happens when one of the windows is open. Over the last 7 days it did not happen again. I closed the windows before pressing the start/stop button though. Last time it happened, I parked the car with the windows down and bang...

There was a battery cable recall a few years ago. Don't know if that was already done to your car, but thought I'd mention it in case it wasn't.
