Retail price for the rear section is $1450.99 and it's an easy bolt-on installation.

DP back retails for $1775.99, but won't be available for a while.

Harold,

By rear section do you mean muffler or catback? Thanks.

What do you guys think it's a reasonable price for the bolt-on rear section from Borla given the retail price?

Be reasonable now.

Wow, I can tell you my thoughts on pricing is nowhere near what they are presenting us with now. I remember for my 350Z I could get their full cat-back dual exhaust for $800. I didn't however since it was full of tons of potential leaks with their multipiece (excessive number of pieces) slip-fit design.

That is really my only expereince with them, but I do realize they have a following so they must do something right. I am kind of waiting to see what they come up with, but I honestly see the $1400 most companies are charging for a full cat-back as a bit high and probably the limit to what I would pay for a full exhaust. Not that I would buy just an axle-back, but if I would I wouldn't consider it for over $1000.

I think borla needs to be competitive with bmw performance exhaust... I mean it doesn't even come with midpipes...

Material and labor has gone up over the years I am sure.

If the bolt-on rear section can be had for below $1000, would you buy one?

I wouldnt... while I think borla is bound to sound good, an axle-back for any car I've seen yet, has been WELL below even 700 bucks...

The way I figure it, noise aside, the bmw performance exhaust is a far better value for the money... oem like fitment and a great price.

Honestly, I am all for this pricing, when I finally get my bits done, it'll be super easy to compete in the market =)

Since I have yet to see enough from Borla to help make a decision, and since I am not real inclined to buy just an axle back, it is impossible to give a real answer here. If they knocked my socks off with the axleback's styling and sound, and they priced it far enough below $1k to make me feel it was worth it to go buy someone else's midpipe to complete the kit, I would consider it.

Way over priced IMHO. I realise stainless steel is expensive. I work with it everyday.. Knowing everything that goes into building this system and how much all the equipment costs, I still think 1000 bux for an axel back is just crazy. Yes it's borla and they have the rep of putting out quality products, but just because we drive BMWs it seems like most aftermarket companies are jacking up the price. It makes me wanna build my own custom exhaust and start selling them for half the price.

I LOVE borla, but $1000 for an axelback is outrageous.
I agree with the poster above me. Just because we drive bimmers doesnt mean the prices should be jacked up. I realize its an economy of scale, but be reasonable. If it were priced somewhere closer to $600 i would definitely be inclined to buy, but unless this thing makes our cars sound like pissed off Dodge Vipers, 1k is unreasonable.

for a catback made with t304 stainless steel and one resonator it shouldnt cost more than 700-900 bucks...anything more is just taking advantage of us being BMW owners...seriously...i got a very nice forge/blueflame exhaust for 600 bucks...2.75in catback with one resonator...sounded fantastic and super good quality with EXACT fit..from line up and OEM hangers..the res and muffler and tips were all beautifully polished..

Prodrive made one of the best selling Subaru axle back exhausts and they sold for around $370 SHIPPED! It was a full 304 stainless as well. ANSA makes a full 304 cat back system for the Subaru WRX/STi as well and it sells for > $400 shipped. Hell most of the Borla systems for the subarus sell for less than $700. I have been waiting for a long time for Borla to release the full cat back system and even with my discount at work there is NO WAY I would pay that. Just because it's for a BMW they are hiking the price.

I suggest all of you write or call Borla and express your opinions, perhaps they will reconsider their pricing structure.

I don't set their retail prices and have no influence over that either.

~$1500 for an exhaust is absolute insanity.

But you get what you pay for with the BMW Performance Exhaust. Same crushed crappy pipes. I'm not totally knocking it.. it sounds good, with sexy tips...and you keep full warranty.

But if I'm doing exhaust for a bit more than just sound, I would not go that route, and would not mind paying just a bit more. Anything above that is just a waste.

So Borla being a large company, with a lot more employees to pay, and hopefully putting in a bit more engineering into their system.... I'd expect the price to be a bit higher. (not saying I'd buy it)

But I think good prices should be..

Axleback: $600-$700 range
Catback: $1000-$1200
