Water/Pump Thermostat Replacement on the way -- Replace anything else?

Just turned 72,000 miles on my 08 1er on the original water pump. Still no signs of failure, but want to have parts on hand for when it happens. Hurt to bite the bullet and pay $500 just to reduce downtime in the future, but will be worth it for peace of mind.

My real question is since I'll be getting my hands dirty and tearing part of the car down anyways to perform this job, would there be anything else anyone would suggest taking care of while I'm down there?

Recent maintenance in the past 5,000-10,000 miles that I've already done has been: 6 new index 12 injectors, new plugs and coils, new LPFP, intake valves cleaned, dual catch cans installed, wiper fluid pump replaced, oil filter housing gasket/oil cooler gasket/oil cooler o-rings replaced, transmission fluid replaced.

If they've not been done yet it would be a fine time to deal with the serp belt and tensionor & idler pulleys.

Also look over the power steering pulley while you're down there- it's probably fine, but some early builds had issues with PS pulley contacting the sub-frame. Yours is probably fine, but since you're under there anyway take a look just to be sure.

Check power steering pump bolts for tightness if you're doing the belt...

The belt and pulleys are still the original as far as I know, so you're right, that might be a good time to replace those. My only hesitation is that my 2008 535i has 185,000 on the original belts and pulleys with no signs of any type of failure.

Will definitely check the power steering pump bolts as I've heard nightmare stories about these loosening up and eating belts.

I know upgrading outlets would show me some slight gains, but would make the job substantially longer and more challenging.
