Cobb Stage 1 vs Stage 2+

How does going from stage 1 to stage 2+ feel? I hate to post one of these subjective threads, although I am dying to know. I have an ETS intercooler sitting at home and waiting on my VRSF dps, so that I can move from S1 to S2+. Is the difference as noticeable as going from stock to S1?

I always here about people having traction issues. My 1er is hit or miss (I suppose it would be a hit having traction) - as in sometimes it has gobs of traction, and other times it spins a tiny bit. I am on stock RFT's, but they are new and seem to have great traction. It does however give me the idea that I am not making as much power as I ought to be..

It is a BIG difference. Its about the same(if not more) than going from stock to stage 1.

Our 135's seem to do a better job of getting traction than the 3 series. Unless you have a subjective reason to suspect you're not making the power you should be, don't psych yourself out lol

Great! I'm excited to get the parts on there asap. Hah...the traction definitely comes down to a mental issue...

I never tried Stage 1, but this is what Stage 2+FMIC got for me at the drag strip with just FMIC and downpipes, all else stock including tires (4037):

Needless to say, I doubt any Stage 1 will come close to that.

Jgold: If i was you, i'd go ahead and order a set of plugs and a plug socket from N54tuning.com

Belive me, it sucks getting all the stuff for stage 2+ on and going out for the first time to see how it pulls and then having misfires It only takes about an hour the first time to DIY and is really easy.
Stage 2+ is an awesome tune, but the car has to be in tip top shape to run it

There is a huge difference between the COBB Stage 1 and Stage 2+ maps. Here's a dyno from COBB that shows you the difference. I know that it shows the gains for a 335i but it'll give you a good idea of what to expect.

You are waiting on the same downpipes as me! LOL Wish they would hurry up and finish them! I've been chomping at the bit for two weeks!

That was a weak 335i for the baseline curve.

With s1 my 135i ran 13.2 in 1/4mi. So a second slower than s2. Huge difference.

Cobb uses mustang dys, 240rwhp is normal(maybe a hair on the low side) for a mustang dyno. Most dynojet stage 2+ runs are around 380rwhp, so the 120whp delta is still valid.

Most people see a 1/2 second delta between stage 1 and stage 2+. Still a HUGE difference.

Yes sir I am. It is slightly aggravating that they continue to say two weeks, two weeks, two weeks. I'd much prefer a hard date or small range. "The manufacturing is scheduled to complete on 2/15...and shipping from China will occur after inspection three days later. Shipping is expected to take 5 days to X location. At that point we will reinspect, and ship out the orders 1-2 days later."

Here is a sample breakdown of which mods are required for each map:
http://www.cobbtuning.com/BMW-N54-Ac...s/bmw/IKB0S_IS

stage 0 - stock map
stage 1 - no mods required
stage 1+ - intercooler
stage 2 - intake recommended + downpipe + catback exhaust recommended
stage 2+ - intake + downpipe + intercooler + catback exhaust

they add a + to a map when an intercooler is required

I highly recommend new spark plugs with a tune. I've ran stock tune and had no misfires, but as soon as I tuned it, I had misfires. I replaced my spark plugs and everything was fine. It is a common problem with our engines and tunes. The tunes demand more out of your spark plugs than a stock tune.

The coils go bad that fast on these cars? Thats terrible. I had 160K coils on my 400 AWHP DSM and never had issues with them.

I previously had a Cobb AP on my FBO Subaru Legacy GT, and with my 135 I went with a JB4. I dont want to turn this into a JB4 vs Cobb discussion, I just have one question.

how does the AP work with E85? how much can you use with the off the shelf maps?

just curious as I live in IL (corn country) and E85 is everywhere and I normally run a 45% mix and the power gains over 93 and a tune were big.

You can use as much as your fuel pump will handle, but from research, both on and off the forums, the consensus is that gains peak at about a 20% concentration.

You can of course modify the ots maps via ATR to suit your needs, go protune or run the ots race e30 map (assuming you have the supporting mods)

I don't think you really need to worry about changing coils unless you are still experiencing symptoms after changing your plugs.

I put a jb4 on at about 23k miles and immediately started experiencing hesitation on spirited 2nd gear pulls. New plugs fixed thing up. Am at 35k now and coils still going.
