Oil Cooler - Sports Package

Make sure if you want the factory oil cooler, you check with the dealer to be sure you get it with the car you order. The 335 only has oil cooler with Sports Package at this time.

I believe the 135i will already have the oil cooler installed.

Is this confirmed? Initially the oil cooler was said to be part of the sports pkg but now its clear that it will not be. So the oil cooler now either comes with all 135is or without.

Any UK owners know the situation with the oil cooler?

There were some pics a Canadian posted last month that showed an oil cooler in the front right of the bumper. Unfortunately he was forced to take them down. That's the only lead I've seen to date of the oil cooler. I think that 135i had the sport package, but it was also Canadian spec, so I'm not sure if they spec things differently. Not sure why Canadians would need an oil cooler in the great north and us in the U.S. wouldn't!

The 135i displayed at the Boston auto show did not have an oil cooler installed.

Asked my SA to look into this. The oil cooler would be the only reason I would get the Sports Pkg.

This is a good question... my brother who bought the 335i with everything known to man for options including the Sports Pkg of course says his car came with an "extra oil Cooler". So, I guess we want to know if it comes standard with one oil cooler, and you get an extra one with the Sports Pkg or not...

That's right. All 335i comes with at least 1 oil cooler. It's the second one that some people are missing, and it's that one that makes the difference.

So the question really is, do all 135i come with two oil coolers?

Yes the Boston show car had a package that looked like ZSP, but it also had brushed aluminum trim, which we know we are not getting. It was not a US configured car, but rather a built car that was as close as they knew the options might be at the time it was built, as I'm sure most of these show cars are following similar suit. US production of the delivered 135i's won't start for another month or two, and these show cars were build months ago.

I don't think we'll know about the oil coolers for the US market, until we start taking delivery, or an enterprising CA takes it upon him/herself to find out what their intentions are. There is no "company line" on the 335i, as to why there are dual oil coolers only on some cars. I bet they will be tight lipped about the 135i too.

Also, we don't know for sure where the oil cooler(s) will even be mounted on the 135i for final production.

IIRC, the 335's with steptronic didnt have the aux oil cooler when that model came out last year, however the 6mt cars all did.

I'm guessing the best chance at having it is to get ZSP with the manual transmission, which I'm sure most of the guys around here will be doing anyway. Good luck getting any acurate information from the dealers regarding this.
