14186 on the clock but 1600 till service?
Okay,
In a few days I'm moving cross country, back to Chicago (from Illinois originally). Its about a 2100 mile trip and I wanted to get the scheduled maintenance done before I left... I'll be in a hurry during the trip and I don't have a day to burn in transit for an oil change in Denver, etc. I had convinced the guy on the phone that even though i wasn't at 500 miles to cover it under the scheduled maintenance. He said it'd be okay if it was a 600-700 miles left and I was like.. no problem. Pop into my car this evening to run to the store and the maintenance countdown says 1600? Is that even possible? The total at that point would be 15786? Is the maintenance mileage variable on these things?? Something seems fishy here.. anyway... any thoughts????? |

If you notice, nowhere does BMW say anything about 15,000 mile service intervals. The actual oil change frequency (called for by the dash countdown) is determined by driving patterns and seems to range from about 12,000 to 19,000 miles.
So to answer your question - yes, BMW oil service intervals are variable and have been for at least the past dozen years. Tom |

I did my first change (break in change - I paid for it) at 3500 mi....the second was done at 11k due to a year passing and not enough mileage (warranty). I have about 12k now and the counter is saying that Im due in another 1800 mi.
