so much for your fancy shmancy subframe bushing extractor tool. We got mine out with a pipe coupling, 2-5" washers, a cup, 1/2" threaded rod, couple of nuts (me included) and a jack. booyah! start the drumroll, larry, if your out there, show them our ingenuity!

Against my better judgement, I give you elite hackery extraordinaire. Make fun all you want, because we deserve it...

One thing to point out, is that it cost nothing, and worked.. eventually.
First pics are the "prototype method".. (I'm being generous calling them prototypes). Next two are successful bushing extractions.

and on to the hackery...

I know what you are thinking. "BRILLIANT! Those guys must be mek-uh-nackel Jeen-yusses"

Next, you're thinking... How the hell did they devise a freebee way to get the new M3 bushing pushed in. Wellllll... Elementary, my dear Watson.

Lastly, these ideas are patent pending. Please do not ask us exactly how we did these for two reasons.

First, it takes so much skill and cunning that most of you do not have the wherewithal to even come close to attempting these feats of dexterity and ingenuity.

Secondly, you'll shoot your eye out, Ralphie.

I lied. Not "lastly".

you may be wondering how it came to pass that we attempted these sophisticated algorithms successfully. There can be only one true answer.

Note: the car is in focus, as it is the subject matter (my story, and I'm sticking to it)

The umbrella was found to be too flimsy. Go figure.

Frisbee was for the nuts, bolts, and screws, oh my! It lubes the fasteners with dog drool. They go back in like reverse goose turds.

That front bushing was a doooooooosy. It probably moves an inch before the rubber starts to give. Version 6 of "the tool" finally worked and It ended with a huge bang

by they way, these bushings are absolutely amazing. before I was kinda scared of when the car was going to step out on me. also, on launch there is much less wandering if you know what I mean. I love these for daily driving!

Did the same for my e34 front control arm bushings (urethane).

Can you put out a detail parts list of Version 6 Tool and beer selection to make it all go smooth, will save us a lot of time sourcing material. Any pics for front diy?

Are urethane bushings available?

Turner has aluminum ones or Delrin ones. Here is a link to the Delrin ones: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html..._ID=TDR9080SB4

The aluminum ones are $150 cheaper but might be a tad harsh for street use.

1/2" threaded rod. any smaller and youll be snapping rods right and left. bunch of 1/2" couplings and nuts. some small 1/2" washers. Then I had some 5" washers with a 3/4" hole. The key was the 4" steel pipe coupling approx 4" tall too. you'll need two jacks. ones to hold up the subframe and one to help with bushing extract. Air tools would be nice to remove some parts of the subframe. beer selection was a delicious wachussets blueberry beer. the large steel washers (3/16" thick) are crucial or else youll be snapping whatever you use as a replacement. a ratcheting wrench is crucial if you expect to finish in one day, lol. in our case a 17mm ratcheting wrench was a lifesaver. good luck,

Andy

Since I live in the other end of the world I thought it would be safe to use Larryns patented method.
Borrowed some tools and tubes from work to do the job.

It was close to 3 hours of work for me.

Thanks guys for the inspiration.

Proper main and helper stacking - The Swift way!

In the first photos is how the main and helper should stack with a long main spring for the most stroke possible.

Not like KW CS in the second photo with a super short main spring and extra tall coupler(after thought maybe?).
