128i Loaner has tighter suspension than my 135i???
Have a 128i loaner with sports suspension. It has 9000 miles compared to my 27,000 miles. The car is markedly tighter than my 2008 135i! I've taken several corners and where my 135i get alot of body role, the 128i stays flat. It feels much more nimbler too....
Did they change spring rates, shocks, what? Is it that my 135i suspension is just worn in? The later I don't think so as much because it has always had this amount of body role. WTF? |

just found this.....
http://www.bimmerfile.com/2010/05/16...iew-2011-135i/ I really like the 128i handling more than my 2008 138i. So the question is, are the BMW performance springs linear? |

Perhaps you are feeling the stiffer (linear) springs. ?
Perhaps you are feeling the beefier front sway bar. ? I think IF you are after a tighter feel from your 135i - you ought to look into the Performance Suspension. But maybe a cheap(er) first step would be an upgraded e93 M3front sway bar. I think that is the route I would first go. Good Luck, Dackel |

This video of a 2011 135i/DCT certainly does not give the impression of a vehicle with excessive body lean.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bygHV...eature=channel I tried to get to the bottom of this in another thread. Truth be told, there are not enough people around here who have driven both the 2011 and earlier models and there are lots of HPDE types who will modify the suspension of a 2011 anyway, because no matter what the improvement, they want an all out track suspension.

The loaner is a 2010 with sport suspension. I just can't get over how much better the suspension feels. I just took it out and flogged it a bit. Where mine rolls, this one doesn't. It's definitely feels better than my 2008 135i with sport suspension. Guess I'll be looking at the BMW PS soon.

Now imagine a 128i with a super duper suspension like mine! on a side note, without highjacking the thread, I think 128i is even more representer for an old time e30 then the 1m coupe coming.

The 128i is about 120 lbs. lighter overall than the 135i (coupe, manual) and most of that weight savings is up front where the 128i carries about 88 lbs. less on the front axle than the 135i. Even the 128i automatic (coupe) is about 40 lbs. lighter than the 135i manual (coupe).
Now, spring rates and sway bar diameters should be able to compensate for the extra weight, so I'm unclear why the OP is experiencing "tauter" handling in the 128i loaner. |

Got my car back today..can you say HPFP failure........replaced that along with all 6 injectors??? Anyway, driving my 135i back home, it does feel "heavier" around the turns. When I talked to the dealer about it, they were oblivious to the fact that there may have been a change in the suspension. They see the 128i as a lesser vehicle, even with the same suspension. I'll tell you, the 128i "felt" more nimble through the turns and not as floaty under hard cornering....It may be the difference in mileage with the struts and spring wearing a tad. But all I know now is it is time for a suspension upgrade.......along with the hood, down pipes, inter-cooler, and rear diff. Funny I have most the parts laying around, just haven't put them on because of the HPFP issue and the warranty. Now may be the time to go for it......

128i. rocks. period. people can't see it, their loss. I care less... and couple years later if a tuner is USA comes up with a plan to get 130i's power out this engine, 135 is history

I think part of the problem is that the differences aren't completely known. I think the consensus is that the 130i has the 3-stage intake manifold, but beyond that and ECU tuning, not much is known from what I've read.

I experienced the same today, but on a 2011 328xi with sport suspension... I'm disappointed on the handling of the 135i, coming from an '08 GTI which walks circles around my 135i, in the handling department.

I don't know what the "non-sport" 135i feels like. Remember, tires, tire pressure and surface are a big part of the equation as well. |

All 135i's come with the sport suspension. The sport package and M-sport package are optional, but the suspension is unaffected. Reportedly, there may be very minor suspension differences with the M-sport package.
Yes, it may have the sport package, but I believe the 3-series AWD cars don't offer a sport suspension, even with the sport package. In fact, just checked bmwusa.com and I am correct, AWD models don't offer the sport suspension, not even with the M-sport package. Point is, the 328xi you drove has the standard suspension, further enhancing your impression that your 135i is more "loosely" suspended. |

So, what you are saying is that the 328 im driving now with the standard suspension feels more planted and with better road maners than the 135i with sport suspension? Because, I'm no expert, but my 135 feels like a pogo stick compared to the 328. Note that my car is a convertible, so maybe the softer suspension is an intended setup. This is my only complaint about the car, but I'll be taking care of this soon with a set of KW coilovers.
