123D Tuning

Hi, I take delivery of my 123D M sport Coupe in a few weeks and I already find myself thinking about getting the chip re-mapped

I was wondering if any of you out there have already attempted this and if so which company did you use and what are you thoughts.

I have found 1 or 2 sites that offer plug and play inline devices that also offer a warranty on the engine.

www.dieseltuner.co.uk

http://www.dieseltuner.co.uk/bmw_diesel_tuning.html

For £346.63 you get 245 BHP and 460 NM Torque.

www.tunit.co.uk claim 240 BHP and 325 lbs/ft torque.

http://www.bhpplus.co.uk claim 242 BHP and 460 NM.

I hope you can help, and I look forward to your responses.

Cant wait to get my car BTW

very interesting... takes my 120 up to 210hp a 20% gain for £300

which realistically could take nearly 1 sec off the 0-60

Make sure any company that you use is very reliable and find decent testimonials.

Good companies that I know / trust include:

DMS
AC Schnitzer
REVO
Superchips

one thing i picked up on the link to the babybmw posts, is they mention how there 123's break traction in 2nd and 3rd with DTC turned off.... now i know my 120 is down on power, and mine is an also an auto... but there is no way in a million years that i could loose traction whilst under way without being on a loose surface.

are they being slightly generous with their views of the 123's power or am just unaware of the difference the auto box makes?

yeah, i read that also and was immediately sceptical of claims. Granted there is alot of extra power but to break traction from 2nd to 3rd on a dry surface is supercar or powerfull front wheel drive territory.

Is there anybody out there who has fitted one yet?

Is there anybody out there going to fit one?

Ptronic looks to be the best?

If you have the car re-mapped what happens to your BMW warranty?

Also do you need anything else upgrading, and if you did have it done and had some kind of engine fault - if you put it into BMW for repair could they re-set it again and basically loose what you've paid?

Has anyone done insurance quotes on these mod's?

Thanks
Kiran

The breaking traction in 3rd is complete crap IMO.

Even remapped the 123d doesn't have anymore bhp, although I do recognise that it will have more torque I do not believe that the traction will break in 3rd unless the road surface is poor and the tyres are very cold.

I have noticed how crap the runflats are, especially when cold and when it has just rained. My car slewed 30 degrees as I nailed it out of the lights the other day!! I did have the DTC switched off by one click though

there is one member on babybmw.net who has a p-tronic box and says hes getting about 260ish bhp i think, if this is true then braking traction is very possible (i do think the road needs to be slightly greazy though).

i personnaly would not go for a tuning box, heard bad stuff about engine wear, fouling up sensors etc etc, after its just feeding the engine duff data on fuel amounts etc. i'm waiting for an ecu remap for the 123D, a few companies are nearly there (although they all say that). If you get a remap with a good company they should put your remap back on if you take it to the dealers and they update the ecu, again could companies will ahve insurance that says, if the engine blows up etc and bmw says its caused by the ecu remap they will pay for the repairs.

wait is my opinion for a proper remap

the stienbour box from rossiters is the best option as its fantastic I have had remaps etc by DMS superchips dragon etc and the stienbour is very very good and farefy universal but a little tricky to fit as it connects to the injectors etc

I have one on my 118d and its fine

I have to warn all Diesel tuners.
DO NOT purchase without seeing a dyno first.

Diesel tuning is common in norway, and the magazine "motor" did a test recently.

None of the tuning boxes held its promises by far.
Some even did a reduction in power/torque...

I would go for BMW "Factory tuners" like AC Schnitzer or www.hartge.de
