2010 BMW 128i shift boot torn

Has anyone replaced their shift boot. I do allot of shifting. Perhaps not enough plastic emollient apps. Any tips on the install, too. Thanks guys.

It's simple to replace. The boot has a plastic ring around the base that pops into the console. Either pull it up or pry it with a nylon trim popper. Once that's up, pull straight up on the knob. It will eventually let go. It's best to try and squeeze the knob off rather than yank because when it lets go, your hand will likely hit the sunroof.

that knob does come off with a surprise but its easy enough and easy replacement

If you're going to get a boot and a knob, you might as well get the M Performance short shift kit which includes both for not much more than purchasing them separately. You do need to get under the car to install it, but it's really not difficult, just a little tricky.

EDIT: I cannot find the M-Performance short shift kit anymore. Every place I check is sold out. I guess the E82 M part supply is drying up.
