Market for 1m Carbon Fenders?
I know there are a ton of people doing conversions these days but there’s only one set of carbon fenders and they are expansive to ship and have questionable fitment. Are people interested in carbon but don’t like the only option out there? I’m asking because I’m going to start making my own carbon parts and would like to make quality molds for 1m fenders but I’m curious if others would be interested in these if I go through the trouble. I’ll likely cut the side vents out in mine when they’re done which will be much cleaner with carbon rather than steel. Just wondering what the interest level is.

I can't believe nobody has done this yet. I was just looking at the 1m carbon fiber fenders for sale and I would for sure buy the ones with a functional fender well vent. I hate fake vents.

Are there that many people doing cosmetic conversions?

I'd buy some depending on the cost and how much weight they cut. You should do some doors too. full frame doors for OEM windows and an option for a frame to mount plastic windows for the racecar bois.
I'd be interested in carbon fiber or fiberglass versions of both. Also, if you could offer an option for the fenders to have more width for a more aggressive wide look but still line up correctly with the 1M OEM bumper and skirts. |

I’ll likely do doors but only the outside skin, not the interior frame. Too many obstacles with mounting inside the thing. And by that I mean you cut the outside of the door from the inside and replace it with the cf outside panel bonded to the metal inside, not just carbon fiber laid over the outside of the car which literally just adds weight. So much dumb in skinning. Don’t get me started.

Ok the that's a huge plus. So it would require a 1M front and rear bumper as well?

If they are duplicating the 1m fenders then it would require OE 1m front bumper/front end conversion. The 1M fenders stick out farther where they meet the non M sideskirt but I don't think it looks bad. Although if someone made a sideskirt that matched I would be a buyer.

Well that's good for me on interest. I'll order the fiberglass and get going. Still have to order the fenders as well, I'm in the middle of my conversion but also juggling single turbo install, fuel system, headlight mods, radiator, oil coolers, the list goes on. I'll try to get these done soon though.

I haven't yet. I'm still in the middle of building my car. It's taking longer than I thought it would with three kids and house projects but I plan to get to this once the car is on the road and I have the garage free again.

Sounds awesome, you should be able to sell some(depending on the price of course). Problem is the weight savings vs one of those FRP kit fenders is probably close to 0, and those would be much cheeper.
I like the door idea more personally, I've never seen any good looking lightweight door options for 1ers. Prolly MUCH more complicated to mold though. |
