HRE C20 - BSM 1M - Tight Fit
I have had my eye out for a nice set of polished lip on black wheels for some time. I found a set of HRE C20's over on the E90 forums and decided to buy them. The look is pretty much exactly what I was going for. However, the fitment is tight. Here are the specs on the wheels / tires:
Front 19x8.5 ET 20 / Hankook V12 245/35/19 Rear 19x10.5 ET 20 / Hankook V12 275/35/19 I know the specs on these are a bit dramatic with the 2" difference from front to back. I am not too concerned with the overall performance given I don't drive the car very hard or aggressively. Here are some photos - my biggest concern is up front. The wheel extends just the slightest bit out past the fender. I am concerned about the tire hitting the fender on compression / bumps. I have H&R Sport Springs which I have not installed. It would complete the look but the fitment would be even tighter. Would the front spring travel be reduced with the Sport springs? |

OEM Wheel is a 9.0J +31.
8.5 +20 wheel gives 17mm (!) more clearance on the inside and only sits 5mm farther to the outside. I don´t see any problems whatsoever. If you want to be absolutely sure, put the front up on a jack stand and put some wooden plank under the tyre to compress the suspension. You will see that there won´t be any remarkable issues. Even more since you are running V12 Evos, which are not known to be specifically large or wide tires. |

I would jack up rear right wheel, put a 2" wood under it, drop it down, then jack up front left and also put a 2"" wood under it, drop it down. That's how we usually do it

Thanks - I am not concerned with the reduced travel of the sport springs. I just want to be sure it won’t lead to rubbing issues which might not exist otherwise.

Compression test checks out - still about 1.5” of gap so plenty of room. I’ll drop by a good shop in the spring to explore the H&R Sport option.
I found this interesting post on suspension and springs. My understanding is that in stock form the 1M has 2” of available travel. If the H&R sport lowers the front by 1.2” then you are left with .8” of available travel which is obviously not a lot to play with. https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=339168 Last edited by Alan1M; 11-18-2018 at 09:19 PM.. |

I Would recommend you get coilovers. 1M handles like a bag of nuts (that's how we say in Germany ) with short springs only. Have driven them myself in a friends car. 0/10 would never recommend
