give it some time. n54 335i's were not losing hpfp's on a large scale during the first model year or so

yes they were. (I had 2 other N54's) it just wasnt getting the proper attention versus the fixation we all now (and rightfully) have with it.

But then rather than the N54 sour grapes, back to N55....

ok, well i guess my point is: don't prematurely make a ruling on n55 hpfp's. give it some time. hopefully it won't be an issue

Question about the '402' pump. I was at the dealer yesterday checking on my 135i status and buying a couple of parts for my e36 M3. I asked the parts guy to bring up the HPFP section of his catalogue (glorified etk) because his shows all the successions of part numbers as parts get updated. There were about 4 HPFP successions shown, but no pn ending in 402 was present. The latest on his list of official replacements was the one that ended in '933'. Where does this '402' fit in, and if dealer catalogues dont even show it, how can we expect to get it?

Im having some problems not sure if its fuel pump related or just engine problems but my car seems to miss fire and lack power in 3rd gear. I will go back to the stock tune to see if it goes away but I have a feeling its not tune related at all.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I work at a BMW dealership (I'm their IT guy) in VA and was casually talking to one of the sales guys about my new 135i I ordered. I mentioned the HPFP and he told me he has had a customer with a failed one in the new N55 motor. I can't give specific details about which HPFP (part number) it was, but just sharing the news.

It was never a troll thread, if only people would click the link in the very first post... and actually read it.

Still waiting for this "recall" my BMW tech told me of....5 months ago!

But the, my 135i at 12k hasn't had a failure, so I say "yet"?

Also, I can state that long cranks don't mean a failure is imminent.
I had long cranks last year when the weather turned cooler, about this time last year.
The long cranks went on till spring, then the software upgrade, no long cranks since then, no HPFP failure.
Throttle response SUCKS after software update.

I posted a poll a while back asking (as I was about to get a replacement on an 08 135) and nobody that's had the 402 has gone back for another and several have several thousand miles on them now. Three dealers here have put several in and none have come back...

And if you read through this post, the problem suggested at the start was another N54.... so far there is the suggestion of a single N55 failure on another forum... personally I look for better feedback than that before I stOiart chirping like a school girl.

Frankly, people with N54's should stay the f*** out of this thread and post problems in one of the bazillion n54 threads.

That's the only way to keep any relative track.
The fact remains that both n54 and n55 are running the same pump though. If I am not mistaken, the individual who posted this thread originally is n54 owner too.

Unless there were significant changes in the software and operation of the fuel system, the pumps still suck. I hope they figured out the problem just like you. I frankly like to hear NEW information from owners of both n54 and n55 to see if the have actually figured out the problems.

They need to check the low pressure pump when they replace the high pressure one as well as the flow, lines, etc. because the low pressure pump acts as the primer pump to the high pressure one. If the primer pump is not giving proper flow then the hpfp will overheat and bust seals causing failure. There is a reason for the failure.

Wouldnt that be ironic if it turned out to be the LPFP all along that was causing the problem?!

I can't remember if I posted in here already, but I've seen 2 N55 HPFP's (one X5 one 335i) fail so far. One low pressure fuel pump on a 335 as well.
